Dave,

I have had this problem off and on ... enough so that I almost always check "do not remember this check" when I go to New Messages, to avoid losing my place. I get the listing of new messages and go into a thread and then when I click "back", I get the "Page Expired" message and have to do my New Message search all over again. This afternoon it is doing it to me EVERY time. (Usually it is intermittant, although I noticed it increasing in the last couple of months compared to previously when it was very rare.) Any idea what is going on? Is there any other "workaround" to get back to my listing. Refresh doesn't work in this case.

I've had the same problem. I've just gone back to the New Messages screen and typed in my best guess of when I last checked for messages. It works OK from there.

Either way, you still have to re-do the search and on a dialup connection, that gets pretty tiresome if you have to do it for every thread. Incidently, whatever the problem was eased up a few minutes later and I got through the rest of the list without having to re-search. I was also noticing very slow response at the time, which has improved somewhat ... so I (perhaps incorrectly) am assuming that this problem is not with my computer, but somehow associated with the site. And the increase in frequency that I referred to did seem to coincide with one of the recent upgrades to the site (when the color scheme changed.)

From time to time I notice that and tend to believe it's a browser cache issue, or maybe a connection issue. A work-around is to open search links in new windows, then close the window when you're done reading the topic.

Hey, Dave, could you repeat the last sentence you just wrote in another, more simpler way? Thanks.

Sure. Assuming you're using a Windows PC, just right click on the link in your search results and select "open link in new window". That will keep your results open and open the topic for reading.

Thanks Dave!

I like your workaround much better than mine!

Now, if I could just figure out how to keep it from doing it in the first place ... I just upgraded my memory from 64M to 128M - is there a cache adjustment that might help that would be feasible or is that unrelated?

Interesting...I had this problem about 6 weeks ago, and it then disappeared as mysteriously as it appeared. I used a slightly different workaround that might be a little less computer-intensive and should work on Macs as well as Windows: open a second browser window (it doesn't matter what's in it) and then do your "New Messages" thing in the MOL window. When the MOL list comes up, click the link of the message you want to read and drag it onto the other window. Voila. And do the same for each message (actually, topic) you want to read...drag onto the new window, and read.

It's just that easy.

Being basically a low-tech person, I generally just look at the thread headings to see what is blue and thus has been added to since last I looked at it. But today eveything is blue! What's up with that?

Make that everything. (It's still dropping letters on me too!)

Link colors are browser-based events (new/active/viewed); if all is blue, it could just mean lots of new posts going up. As for the dropped letters, try to upgrade or reinstall your browser.

Sorry, Dave, I mean all is blue, even threads that have not been posted to in days.

Actually, the threads that I looked at today and that haven't been posted to are no longer blue, so whatever wasn't working seems to be working again. But now the 'back' button isn't working.... Sigh....

You should just wipe windows and start over. But I did read this article the other day about 'certain' sites that now can disable back buttons, take over your screen etc. It was interesting. I'll assume those 'certain' sites haven't been accessed on your computer and you are just dealing with the normal windows woes.
