In response to an earlier tech support issue, I have gotten in the habit of opening discussion threads in a new browser window. I often open several at a time and then go back and read the first ones while the later ones process (since I'm on a slow dialup connection). This speeds up the process. Recently, however, my new windows are insisting on opening right on top of the search results frame, so I have to move them aside before I can see the scroll bar, etc. on the original window. I know that it sounds trivial, but it sure is slowing me down and adding a lot of extra keystrokes. This was happening for awhile a couple of weeks ago and I was just about ready to post this question when it stopped happening. Now, today, it is doing it again. I don't think I've changed anything on my system other than a Norton Anti-virus (routine) upgrade. Any idea why this is happening. Is there a way to dictate the positioning of new browser windows? |

There's no way the message board software can dictate where your new windows pop up. It's driven by the ghost in your machine. Theoretically, it is possible to dictate where windows pop up using javascript, but it is not part of the software we're using. |

The browser controls the location and size of windows that you open in this way and, to the best of my knowledge, there's no way to control this location. My own experimentation indicates that when you use Javascript in another context to specifically set the size and/or lcation that this changes the internal "open in a new window" setting, at least for Internet Explorer. Well, I have had this problem using windows. And I have nailed it down to this (i hope..) If you close ALL the windows, the last window closed will dictate how new windows pop up. Try moving it before you close it. I may be wrong, I often am, in which case take my advice for what it is, the babblings of a neurotic geek....Who had the time and motivation to try such voodoo silliness -enigmabomb- |

Dave - Sorry - I didn't mean to imply that it was caused by the message board, but I figured I could post it here since it had to do with my use of the message board. I knew that it had to be something I was doing ... and enigmabomb's explanation seems right. I now have the windows behaving as desired again. (Thanks enigmabomb!) |

I try, BTW, You might want to try using opera, It keeps all the browser windows contained within one window for easy navigation. Not really an urgent thing, but if it's raining and you have some time... Opera is free btw. -enigmabomb- THAT DOES NO COMPUTE. |
