Intermittantly, and with increasing frequency in recent days, I've noticed that I sometimes receive an incomplete list of search results with the "New Messages" search. Just now, I got a single topic on a search that was reaching back two days. I had checked "don't remember this search", so I was able to repeat it and see the whole list this time. Any idea what might be going on? |

Hmmm, Can you provide me with some basic computer info? What browser are you using, it is possible that the php might have an error, or your computers date is wrong (Dave: does the php get the local date?) or your browser could be using a cached copy. -enigmabomb- |

No PHP is used in message board's software. It's all perl. I think I'm going to re-index the data over the weekend and maybe that will help. |

I'm using IE 5.5 on Windows 98. I haven't made any significant changes to it since last spring, when I upgraded from Win 95 to 98 and IE 5.0 to 5.5. I've been a regular reader/searcher and occasional poster on MOL for longer than that. I'm sure that I've made minor changes to my system more or less continuously, however, since I have several programs that get updates via the Internet and occasionally seem to include system file updates in the process. I'm not sure that I ever saw this behavior at all until sometime in the last 2-3 weeks. |

This sounds like a perl problem...Try clearing your history. In ie go to ... Edit... Options then hit clear history and delete temporary internet files. Other than that... I don't know what to tell you. Also, Try hitting refresh when this type of thing happens. -enigmabomb- |

Dave, I'm wondering if there's a way to make the default in New Messages be having "Message Tree View" picked rather than the way it is currently, in which I'm forced to remember to pick that check box or to go back and check it when I forget. I seem to remember that awhile back "Message Tree View" was the default. Unless, of course, I'm the only user of MOL who prefers that option. Then, in the immortal words of Emily Littela, never mind. |

Jem, The software is weird that way. I can set up Tree View as a default for everyone and then individuals can opt for text-only in their preferences, but not vice-versa. |

But what I'm getting is NOT tree view as a default, and what I want IS tree view as a default. What's up with that? |

New messages again: Since the last week or two. I get the correct search result, click to a message, then hit back to look back at the search. The results are gone and I get a "Page Expired" message instead. There is an option to repost the data but it doesn't work. I used to have the same problem on Keyword Search (there, if I first clicked on page 2 then I could get the original results back - if there was more than one page of results), but now it seems OK. Win ME and Explorer 6.0.2600. I also use Windows Internet Connection Services. Thanks The exact error screen I get is: Warning: Page has Expired The page you requested was created using information you submitted in a form. This page is no longer available. As a security precaution, Internet Explorer does not automatically resubmit your information for you. To resubmit your information and view this Web page, click the Refresh button. |

Go to "edit profile", log in, scroll down to "preferences" and check the box for "open New Messages in new window" and then "save information". That will maintain your list of new messages while you read them in a separate window and prevent the problem you mention. |

Barley, Your error has happened to me as well on random occasion. I was just able to recreate it. If you click on a link before all of the search results load - than hit back - the page will say expired. See if that helps. Jamie |

Dave, thanks, that should do it. Jamie, it happens every time, even if I wait for the page to load completely. |
