A few DAYS?! |

This is weird. I sometimes look at MOL on a PC and sometimes on a mac. I just went to the mac and I guess because I've had a MOL window open and running on the mac for a few days, I still have the New Messages icon and it works! Now I just hope that nothing crashes for the "few days" until you get it fixed for everyone else. |

Yeah, this used to be such a cool website ... |

I guess I'd better leave mine up. It was still running from earlier in the day and my New Messages link still worked. Does that mean I'm messing up the server? If so, I'll reluctantly be a good guy (gal) and cease and desist. |

Well ... I lasted until a little while ago and then I had to refresh and it was gone. I hope it comes back soon as I'm already into withdrawal. |

Nevah, Ahhnold. I would nevah use a Windoze sehvah. The sehvah eez a Linux based sehvah, but eet can get very popular at around election time |

No withdrawling here: I'm still happily using New Messages on the seriously back-level version of netscape that I run on the mac. |

We had another server load issue. I'm not sure when we'll restore it - possibly after the election. I always use the last day link. Jamie webmaster@maplewoodonline.com |

Hope to have it back very soon (days, not weeks). We're examining some of the scripts (programs) that run New Message searches and trying to work out ways to make them more efficient in terms of CPU usage. We may end up moving archives to a different search routine to improve things. |

The New Messages script will be down until further notice. We're in touch with the software author and have learned that the next upgrade will have the ability to house data in an SQL database, which will lessen the load on the server. Sorry for the inconvenience, but the alternative is to have a message board that's down most of the time. Dave |

Gee, I thought Linux boxes never went down. ;) I notice that even the Last Day link is dead. This board is really hard to deal with if you only have the Topics links. Is there nothing else that can be done in the interim? |

SQL Database you say? This is a job for PostGreSQL!!! It'd be so cool if you ran that as the db server...They have a nice perl module...and they are all open source... -enigmabomb- Ternary, Unary, Subsidary. |

Please, Dave, whatever you do, don't let the message board go down. I don't think I could take it. What with all of the activity during the election, I may need to dig out that twelve step program ... |

Mybe I'm weird, but using the topics button opened a whole new world on MOL for me. I can see topics that have fallen to the wayside and comment on them (or continue to ignore them). From their postition and time stamp it is easier to find new postings(since the last time I checked 1/2 hour ago) And it is SO much faster. Even when Last Day returns, I doubt I will. NC |

Libtarylady, I'm starting to agree with you about using the topics that way. It's not as inconvenient as I thought it would be. I can see major problems, however, if one can't check the board at least once a day. |

Jem

What's really inconvenient is always having to scroll down to the bottom of the discussion thread to see the newest post. I'm used to just zeroing in on the latest messages with New Messages, and this is very tedious. The only saving grace is that at least the latest discussion posted to shows up at the top of the topic. *heavy sighs* |

So Dave, While New Messages is gone, is it possible to invert the order of postings in each topic so that the new ones appear on top? I think this would help. Traffic seems to have dropped off considerably since New Messages went down. Jim |

No use it sparingly or we shall have to make it a "premium" service. You know, for $40/year you get a Maplewoodonline toque and permission to use the newmessages function. |
