can anyone give me a clue as to why my computer starts out fine, but then after several minutes slows down to the point of my having to restart.
spybot and adaware aren't doing the trick. When the computer slows down, the cursor is also dragging along.
thanks once again.

Hi,

I have a part-time computer troubleshooting business that does a lot of work in Millburn and Maplewood, so I have some experience in this matter. I will tell you some things to look for.

First, if you have Windows NT or Windows XP, then do a CTRL-ALT-DEL and go into the Task Manager. See what processes are running and what processes are taking a long time. This should tell you about any running programs that may be a problem.

Second, make sure that you have enough virtual memory on your disk. A sure symptom of slow computers is that you are running out of disk space, especially on the drive where your virtual memory resides. When a computer runs out of physical memory, it usues something called virtual memory, and this virtual memory is represented as a large disk-based file.

See if any of those things help. There are a lot of other things that can cause slowness, but try these two.

thanks.
i think i just fixed the problem. i changed my home page. seems as though there was a bug embedded within the msn home page i had been using -- noticed something fishy while it was loading. now that i've changed the home page, the speed stays up.
