Just got a new iMac G5, and I'm encountering a problem trying to print from either Internet Explorer or Safari. In short -- I can't. I have an HP Office Jet G85, and print jobs from IE or Safari go to the queue and then stop. Any suggestions on how to get these pages to print? |

(Double check physical connections first) When you open your Print Center what do you see? Are jobs paused? |

"Job Stopped" is the message I get. It starts out "processing" the job, and suddenly it stops. I'm connected via USB, and I've disconnected it, reconnected it, turned off the printer, shut down the computer, and nothing seems to work.

Try this, after you start the print process go to the dock and look for a printer icon representing your printer, if it is there click on it and then in the window it brings up, check the print job status. In the toolbar at the top of the window look at the printer icon, does it show under it "Start Jobs", if so click on that icon and start the print process. But before you do that, look in the frame below and click on any extra or double print jobs that may be in there and then delete them via the delete icon. this of course can only happen if you set up the printer via the "Printer Setup Utility" in the Utilities folder located in the Applications folder. If you have, you can also go to the Utilities folder and double click on the "Printer Setup Utility" and double click on the printer name in the window to bring up the window for your printer, allowing you to perform the actions I mentioned before. If your printer is not shown try selecting the "Add" icon and configuring your printer from there. |

thanks for the advice -- but it turns out that even though installed the drivers, and I had printed jobs before, the print drivers were suddenly not being recognized by the Mac. I went to the HP website, downloaded the drivers again, reinstalled them, and now it works. go figure... |

OK -- figured out how everything got messed up. I took the USB cable out of the Mac and plugged it into my Windows laptop to print a document. That screwed up the drivers, and meant I had to uninstall, download again, and reinstall. so from now on, I'll have to email my laptop files to myself so I can print them using the Mac. anyone know why you can't toggle a printer back and forth between Windows and Mac? |

Have you been able to replicate this? How can plugging the printer into a pc effect the drivers on your Mac, it's not even connected to it? Did you unplug the printer cable from the Mac while the printer was still turned on, and/or it was turned on and print center was still open? I could see how this could mess the drivers up, and I think it even occured once with my HP printer. Even if I have the dang thing turned off and then unplug it, I get an alert from my iBook about it. |

I'm almost positve that's the issue, because on Wednesday I reinstalled everything and had it printing fine. Then yesterday, I printed from the PC and immediately after plugging the Mac back in, everything was messed up again. I did unplug it while everything was turned on, and that may have been the source of the problem. At this point however, I'm not going to try it again, plugged, unplugged, on, off, or whatever. It's been too much of a hassle to uninstall and reinstall (twice now). |

maybe unrelated - In the last 1 year or so I've had to download HP drivers 3-4 times after mistakenly deleting the drivers when I thought I was just stopping a print job. I find the whole Printer Center and HP Director set up rather confusing, and I've been using macs for 15-20 years. Also, I've yet to figure out how to print a color document just in B&W. Unless I'm wrong, most printer software has a button on the window when you choose quantity, which pages, etc. in which you can choose color or B&W. |

I have never had good experiences with HP inkjet printers and Macs. I use high-end Epsons now and they've been exceptional. To print a color doc in BW I have settings under "print..." that specify "ink type" and I select "Two Level grayscale". Options will vary by printer model. |

I've had the HP for about 3 years, and just got the Mac last month. At this point, I don't want to replace the printer, but maybe the next printer will be an Epson. I've got to admit the HP has been a little flukey at times, even with Windows. Printing from Internet Explorer has occasionally been a problem, even before I got the Mac. |
