I'm a reasonably savvy computer user, but this one has me stumped. I have both a track point and a touch pad on my laptop (thinkpad T42p). I hate the touch pad - I keep accidentally brushing it with my thumb and accidentally doing things I don't want to do. I want to turn it off. I go into Control Panel and choose "Mouse." Then I choose "Ultra Nav." I take the check mark out of the box labelled "Enable Touch Pad." I click "Apply." Touch pad still on. Click "Ok." touchpad still on. Go back to control panel, Mouse, etc - and the check box is back in the box. After several iterations of this I was able to make the touch pad go away this afternoon. No actions any different mind you - just suddenly, it worked. I came home from work and the touch pad is on again and I can't make it go away. Somebody save me before I lose my reason ... |

Early in the boot sequence you should see a message to press and hold one of the F keys, it will bring up a diagnostic and configuration subsystem interface specific to your hardware manufacturer. Look through all the options to see if you can disable the bugger at that level.

If you don't find a solution there, try setting it to not register a tap as a click. It'll still move, but at least it won't do stuff. |

I'll try what argon said next time I reboot and let you know. As to setting it to click or whatever - I've tried resetting every configuration, and no matter what I do it goes back to the default. Lovely, lovely Microsoft ... how I love Microsoft ... |
