Here is what I do : For a cassette player, I have a cord which has 2 RCA jacks on one end and a 1/8" phone jack on the other end. You can get these from Radio Shack. Plug the 1/8" phone jack into your computer's sound card. Then you need some software which can capture the output from your sound card. I use a shareware program called Goldwave (www.goldwave.com). You start your cassette recorder and Goldwave at the same time. Goldwave will capture the audio output of the sound card, and will store the sound internally (or onto your hard disc) as a WAV file. You can edit the WAV file with Goldwave, and separate the tracks into individual MP3 files. There are so many tools out there. People who do home recording might recommend tools like Cool Edit, Sonic Foundry, etc. There are also tools which let you clean up the sound... such as removing hiss, pops and clicks from cassette tapes and vinyl. Hope this helps. Marc @ millburnweb.com

justme - I plugged my old Aiwa walkman directly into the line-in jack on my desktop to rip my treasured cassette collection to MP3s... Radio Shack sold me a cable for under $10 that plugged into the headset jack on the walkman... worked like a charm! |
