Hi. I have an external Medea 320GB hard drive connected to a Shuttle XPC. For some reason, I can never remove the drive from the computer. When I try to do this, I get the following response:

"The device "Generic Volume" cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later"

I try again later and I get the same response. When I went on vacation last week I shut down my entire system. I was hoping this would fix the problem, you know... reset everything. However, this problem still happens.

Advice?? I don't want to damage the drive, the CPU, or its content.

Shut down the computer completely and then disconnect the drive while it's turned off?

Is this device is hooked up as a USB? Try stopping the device first using the USB icon that appears at the bottom in the tray.

Do you like the Shuttle? I built mine (using it right now) a couple of years ago and it sure is sweet.

Tiny outside but a monster inside.

I followed argon's advice and it worked. Thanks!

Yeah.. the shuttle is great. I use it mostly for a digital sampler program called Gigastudio.
