I am writing on my laptop because my desktop is in a near coma. Yesterday we got the normal "Time to run your Live updates" thing from Norton. We ran it, rebooted and WHAM...the whole computer is frozen. I managed to wiggle a few things loose....like internet access but when I manage to open a page it becomes non-responsive, I can't "end task" etc.and I end up rebooting. Do you think a full uninstall/reinstall would solve everything? It is a Dell and the internet access issues were linked to firewalls etc. |

Try to do a system Restore from some time before you did the install. |

Good Idea Brett...I just tried that. Now the "Restore Point Wizard" won't let me select any days prior to 1-1-05! I have some restore points from yesterday while I frantically ran SpyBot and Adaware. Is there a trick to selecting a date in a prior year? Maybe it is just my machine freezing up on me.... |

Mine is letting me go back into December so I'm not sure what's happening with yours. Did you try starting in safe mode? This should keep your computer running long enought to do a restore. |

kmk- You could try calling Dell Technical Assistance at 800-624-9896. You'll need your service tag no. and express service code. |

Well I did completely (I think) remove Norton. I need to reinstall but it is so nice running "light and fast" without it! I also found out that the Windows restore point was recording informaiton from both my main 50% full hard drive and my 99% full back up drive. I turned off the restore point for the back up drive and now I have about 14 days to go back through. It seems that the restore point frequency is tied to amount of memory available to record it in. |

If you have Norton 2005 throw it out the window!!! It caused me so many problems I thought I'd toss my computer out the window! I finally uninstalled it and put Norton 2004 back on. |

Each new version of a software product such as Norton Internet Security requires more and more in the way of memory and system resources. Some of these upgrades just won't run on older machines with their slower speed, lower RAM and ROM, and earlier versions of OS systems. Just because your computer had the system resources needed to run an older version of a software product, you shouldn't assume that it can handle the upgraded version. |

I have an 866 MHz P-III with 512 MB of RAM. Norton Internet Security 2004 or Norton Antivirus or both are slowing the computer down terribly. I'll be replacing it with a mac mini soon. Enough of this nonsense. |

I was a loyal Symantec customer for years. This year, for the first time, I switched to another company. I installed Trend Micro's PC-cillin and it's been great. Faster scanning and less load on the system than NAV. Top rated by PC World also. |
