The South Orange Public Library is now home to a mobile computer lab. Thanks in large part to an anonymous donation from a former South Orange resident, there are five laptops that are being used with a multitude of classes and programs. The library’s wireless internet access allows groups to go online for background information or for learning effective ways of doing research. Ellen Kahaner, local author, parent and teacher, who runs Author Study series at the library for parents and preschoolers, enhanced the study of Ezra Jack Keats with online exploration. Marilyn Lehren, teacher of Songs and Stories, will be offering some chances to play with music composition - with computer assistance - in the spring. Not sure of your way around a computer or need to learn how to set up an email account? Register at the library for Introduction to the Internet on Friday, February 25 or Basic Email on Monday February 28. Both classes run from 11:30am - 12:30pm. Customize your own class by getting a group together and making a request at the library. Parents and students could learn some new tips for doing research online. Library card holders could set up a class in the many ways to use your card from home (it’s not called the go anywhere.be everything. card for nothing…). Find some friends who want to join you in brushing up on word processing skills. And look for the spring programs listings - computer classes, author study session, music, storytimes. Everyone who loves words make sure to look for the journaling series that will begin in March.
