I have Comcast as my ISP and since last night we have very big weirdness... I am having to post this by using remote software to go to my office computer because MOL won't load...NYTimes either won't load or won't load images, WSJ won't load and yet I can go out over the web and see some sites and also, obviously, access my work computer... I am ignorant but think this may be something to do w/ Domain Name Servers or DNS...? Any ideas folks? Many thanks and surf well, all. David Buckley |

Received a few "why is my site down?" calls this morning related to it. I think what happens is that Comcast's master DNS file gets damaged somehow or their router goes offline and they have to do a restore. Depending on different web sites' connections, some will appear online and others not. Obviously, we're online. |

I had some problems, too. I was able to get to most sites, so it's more likely to be a DNS problem than a routing problem, but it could be either. It could also have been outside of comcast. |

The Internet can survive a nuclear attack, but not a corrupted file. |

I've been having some problems, and also my landline phone is out. I use verizon for the phone but comcast for the cable modem. I tried to load the verizon website and it won't come up, neither will msn.

Last night i noticed it down too when i would try to access some sites. Most notably: pncbank countrywide.com I just spoke to my wife and she told me MOL was down (she is at home). I panicked, logged on, and nope, it wasn't down. Something is up...it would seem. |

I've found that for the past couple of weeks there have been problems. I have a little app called "BwanaDik", it places a small ball in my menubar, when I stop getting a signal from my ISP (Comcast) it changes from green to red. I've been getting this a lot lately, but it only lasts for a few seconds at a time, it's enough to be annoying when you have to wait for a page to load, hit refresh, wait, etc. Another thing I like about BwanaDik, is that when I click on the ball in the menubar, I get a dropdown menu that shows my IP addresses, both internal, and external. If you have a Mac, you can get it here, http://www.jschilling.net/index.php

Same here, Comcast. Seemed like it was some kind of DNS issue. However re-booting my cable modem seemed to help a little. Not sure why, maybe I got a new IP and default gateway? Didn't check before, so I'm not sure about that. |

Do you think it could be related to Homeland Security? It would never occur to me except for the tests going on all around us...... |

It's Thursday and my Comcast connection seems to be working well. Notice how few posts on the MOL boards yesterday? The service outage was far and wide it seems. |

Comcast is having a nationwide DNS problem. This accounts for the spotty service. The only way i can use the net is to have to hard code verizon's dns servers into my router! Hopefully they get this resolved. I have been spending some time on the comcast message board...its an interesting place! |

Just after I posted yesterday morning my service was out almost all day. I spoke to my parents in Texas - and their Comcast internet was out also! "Nationwide DNS problems"....that is serious stuff. |

I, too, had a Comcast problem but I shut down modem/router for FIVE minutes and rebooted PC this morning and viola! it was back... 's been very slooow though.... ... I think I dislike Comcast high-speed almost as much as I disliked Verizon DSL. |
