My kids put a minidisc in the drive, and it won't eject. Hubby tried rebooting, the paperclip maneuver, and even scissors to open the case out of desperation. I told him the scissor thing probably wasn't the greatest idea. So what do we do? Thanks P.S. It makes a cranky grinding sound on startup, now. |

Yikes! You might want to try calling the Apple Store at the Short Hills Mall for suggestions (ask for the Genius Bar). |

Try going into iTunes or something and hitting the 'Eject' command in the 'Controls' menu; sometimes the disk drive on my computer refuses to open until a program tells it to... it's bizzare and I don't know why, but it's something to try. |

is this a slot loading or a tray loading iMac, since you said a paperclip was involved, I am guessing it is a tray loading iMac. Try this, restart the iMac and after you hear the chime hold the mouse button down (left button for a mouse with more then one button) until the drive ejects, take out the offending disc. It's not guaranteed that this will work, the mini cd may be stuck in a way so that the tray won't. If it doesn't work, a gentle shaking may be in order while trying to eject the CD. If you have this problem with a sot loading iMac, good luI usually hear of having to take the iMac apart, and removing the drive. then you do what you can to take it out, and/or buy another drive. |
