I have a disc of photos that I had made at Costco and I need to copy it to my father-in-laws computer. Most unfortunately, he uses a peecee, a tool of the devil, not to mention completely counterintuitive...!

How do I copy the pictures on this Costco disc to this evil machine???

This is not just deranged Mac love...seriously, why is it so difficult? He's been using this machine for years and we can't figure it out....

Many thanks for any help you may provide...

Yours in sublime frustration,

Compute well, all.

You can't simply drag the files to a folder? What type of files are they?

David:

Dave is talking about the click and drag feature of windows which makes moving files simple but your father-in-law's computer has to have sufficient memory to be able to receive the image files and has to have the right kind of image viewing software to be able to see the images.

Try the following:

1. Place the photo disk in your father in law's computer.

2. If the disk immediately "runs" and displays the images, you will know that it is possible to display these images on the PC. You can then minimize the file and drag the icon representing the image file to your father in law's computer's desk top. The pictures will now be there.

3. If the disk does not immediately "run", go to my computer (or the equivalent in the operating system the PC is using), click on the icon representing the drive the photo disk is in and double click to open the file. If the file opens follow directions above. If it doesn't open, chances are it can't. You will then need to check for image display software, memory, problems with the drive, etc.

Good luck.

I get photo discs from Costco made all the time when i get prints made from film. If what you have works the same way, you won't be able to drag and drop. (At least i haven't figured out how to do it yet!)

What i do is:
- right click on the desktop and choose New/Folder (then give the folder a recognizable name)
- insert cd
- when the Costco screen pops up, choose "View Your Photos"
- when the thumbnails appear, select each one, one at a time (you'd think there'd be a way to Select All, but there's not). you'll know if one is selected if there's a green box around it
- click on Save
- find your target folder and hit okay
- when you're told the images are saved, close the Hyperphoto CD Viewer (by clicking the X in the upper right corner)
- click on Exit

Hope that helps!
