I have DSL. I recently moved a computer to another room, but haven't been able to get a connection using the new phone outlet (which does work in terms of phone service). I've run a superlong phone wire to the former outlet, and it works. So that I don't have the wire running down the length of the foyer, might someone please tell me if there is a way to get the new phone outlet to work for my Internet connection? Is this something the service provider might be able to fix over the phone? I hope I am being clear. Many thanks for any assistance. |

They might be able to help over the phone. They would certainly prefer that to visiting you. With DSL, you should plug your DSL modem directly into a phone jack without a filter. (You know what a filter is, right?) All other jacks should have filters plugged into them. Then you should plug phones into those filters. So to move your DSL modem (and thus your computer) to a different jack, be sure to remove the filter from the jack you are moving to. |
