Does anyone use this program? What exactly does it do? Someone suggested I use it and sent me it in an attachment. Another friend said to be careful because it might be software that allows this person access to my computer. Thanks!

First, if you don't know the person, simply delete the attachment. There is no reason to email someone software, when it can likely be downloaded from the internet (for example, from here
http://www.webroot.com/products/windowwasher/?rc=451&ac=padw

If you do know this person, you might want to ask them in the future to not email you software, but to send a link to a site that you can check out before downloading.

Then delete the attachment.

Never accept an executable program from anyone via email (ok, there might be a few legitimate exceptions, but they are rare).

Woodstock offers sound advice, but I feel I should contribute my opinion that you should never click on an e-mailed link (i.e., from your active e-mail window). Many current malware worms are spread from infected address books, meaning you could get an email that looks legitimate, yet is not.

Instead, open a separate browser window and visit the website in question to discern the relevance of the e-mail threat.

It never hurts to do a quick internet search about the product to try to understand what it is and determine if it's something you want to use. Then, if it is, I would most definitely find an "official" download site and obtain it from there.
