There are a few tabs across the top in the "folder options" window. One of them is "file types". Notice what the so-called extension of the file is, such as .doc. Find it in the list. Then there is an "opens with..." button. This is where you get to tell it which program ought to open files with that extension. Is that clear enough? |

I'm not clear: have you had luck opening the attachment? You don't actually have to do this anyway. You can save the file, remember where you save it, and open it with Word (if Word will open it). |

.wpd is a Word Perfect document. Looks like this shareware will help you convert it to a Word document: http://www.gold-software.com/download8284.html |

Usually if you can't open a file, and something like that pops up, you can google a search on the file extension. In this case it was ".wpd". The resulting google page usually will tell you what program is associated with the file extension. I haven't used word perfect in a few years. I am surprised that word isn't able to convert the file over to the different format. I can remember a few years ago when word perfect would convert the files, and MS word wouldn't. I figured this would have changed by now. I guess I had too much confidence in Microsoft.

If you are not concerned about the formatting of the document you can use Word to open it. Do the following open word go file open, at the bottom of the selection screen you will see "files of Type" click on the dropdown menu and select "Recover Text from any file" now select the WPD file and click open. There will be a large amount of formatting garbage the text should be below that in unformatted text.
