Microsoft holds short film contest about Intellectual property rights and demands entrants forego same rights.

Can't make this stuff up

quote:

"The theme of your film should be about how intellectual property theft affects both individuals and society. Think about it: what would a world look like without protection for intellectual property?"

[Terms excerpt:]

Please note that the entry form incorporates a Release of Rights.

Nothing wrong with that... they have asked folks to enter a contract willingly...

IP theft is exactly what it says, theft without the acknowledgement of the owner... MS is NOT stealing anything here...

If I ask Pink Floyd to donate the rights of their album to me it is OK... it is not OK for me to rip their stuff from Napster...

Supporter with 12 posts gets huffy instead of smirking along with minor irony supplied by 5'10" moderator with kingsize legal bills.

Film at eleven.
