I Love Love Love my 20 GB iPod and find it a profound development in technology and usability. However, it acts up sometimes, skipping during songs, skipping entire songs, truncating tracks. It does this off the iTunes on the desktop and on the portable device. The iPod is nearly full, with ~5k songs and about 3 GB left. Any help would be appreciated. |

This is a guess, but try re-importing the songs. Is it the same songs that skip? |

You might also try resetting the iPod, http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705 As Tom asked, is it always the same songs, were they all downloaded via the same source? Were they all ripped with the same app? Do the songs still stutter when they are setting on the computer, and then played, or only when played through the iPod to the computer? If possible, do the songs exhibit the same problems when played with another player/app? If they don't stutter when played off of the computer only, then you might want to check out the HD on the iPod, perhaps even defragging it, if you have backups of the music files, I would just restore the iPod, and then reload the files to see if the problem persists. Are you on a Windows pc? If so you (are others) may find this tip helpful, http://www.mp3.com/tech/tutorial_stutter.php for stuttering problems, although it doesn't address the iPod issue. If worse comes to worse, the hard drive of the iPod may failing...

VERY VERY IMPORTANT: In the preferences of Itunes, make sure that under the Importing tab that you have the USE ERROR CORRECTION checked. Error correction is far more important than speed in my opinion. It will make sure those skips (which are actually scratches all over your cd) no longer exist. |

I agree with AlleyGater - use the error correction. That is your problem. It may slow down the importing a little, but the problem should go away. |
