I have been unable to get into my gmail account for two days now. Everything else on www.google.com works fine and google still recognizes my account. Whenever I try to access gmail I get the following error message "cannot log into mailbox (12007) Unable to find server in DNS." I have tried e-mailing google from the google site giving another e-mail address for reply but have as yet received no response. Is anyone else having this problem? Is there anything else I can do to regain access to my prior messages, new messages and address book? Any suggestions would be welcome. |

It's not google's fault. Your PC or home router is misconfigured. The first thing to try is to power-cycle your DSL or cable modem, along with your home router, if you have one. If that doesn't help, email me at noglider@pobox.com, and I can probably help. |

Thanks for the quick reply. I am using AOL dial up. No cable modem. No router. I tried rebooting the computer and that didn't work. No new software has been installed since this problem began on Tuesday afternoon and I haven't changed any computer settings. How can I reconfigure my computer? Is there a utility or other program I can run? What else would you suggest? PS: I sent you an e-mail but I can't receive PL replies just now because that also goes out through my gmail account. Hopefully, my e-mail to you went out through my AOL e-mail. |

Oddly, I haven't received your email yet. You can modify your MOL profile to change your email address for PL's. Why don't you call me at 908-580-3447? If you don't have a free phone line, IM me. My screenname is noglider. |

Hmmm...any resolution here? I know AOL is supposed to be launching a huge AOL WEb mail upgrade. Hopefully they didn't block gmail.google.com from their DNS servers... Definitely not fair play! |

Rick: Could be possible. I've tried everything else. Would signing on using a different browser help or would AOL as my ISP still filter out the gmail? Do you suggest contacting AOL with the problem? Thanks. |

Problem solved!!!! The fire wall was blocking access to the DNS server!!! I disabled the gmail notifier and told the fire wall to accept gmail trying to connect to the DNS server. Problem solved until the fire wall gets uppity again. |

Who helped you (besides me)? So are you saying you re-enabled the firewall? I hope so. |

The firewall is re-enabled. I just instructed it to permit gmail access to the DNS server. After a great deal of trial and error, I hit on this solution on my own. |
