Try 9th Tee

http://www.9thtee.com/

If it's a problem with the HD, they can provide you with a replacement HD. If you don't have a lifetime membership with your Tivo, it's cheaper to get a new as they almost give them away now - I saw an offer recently where it was basically free after rebate (of course, subscription still costs).

Thanks Rick and Klg. The issues are that it used to freeze every once in a while and need to be rebooted. But now when I reboot all I see is the loading screen saying "almost there"...

I'd get a new one, but since I already have the lifetime it doesn't seem worth it.

I've used 9th Tee or ptvupgrade.com before - the way it works is that you remove the HD from your box, mail it to them (with some $) and they send you a replacement HD that just pops in and works. I used it to upsize the HD. If the problem is with other hardware, then that wont work - but if you replace the motherboard, you lose your lifetime membership anyway. Check out the tivo community website - there are lots of folks there with knowledge of tech issues.

Hi Eric...

How often does it freeze up on you? Do you happen to know what software version you are running?

{you can get taht from the System Information}

Also, how do you connect to get updates? Phone, wired network, wireless?

There are great TiVo forums out there, one that comes to mind:

Call Tivo. You may be able to get a replacement for free. If you have another company open up the box, it voids all warrenties. Although, hacking the box and getting a new HD would not be too bad b/c you could increase the size and record more programs.

Eric,
If your tivo is out of warranty already than you have nothing to lose from replacing the HD. I've upgraded both of mine without any problems. The instructions from pvtupgrade are clear and easy to follow. They also give great technical support and have a very good reputation in the tivo community.

I'm having different issues: I have a series 2 Humax box with the DVD-R. The DVD burner has quit working- it creates coasters of any DVD and any program. After some research, Humax is a disaster to work with.

The box is only 7 months old! Does anyone know of a place I can get the burner repaired on my box?

Thanks
