Back again for your recommendations. Was hoping to get a feel for some IM clients out there. I have used AIM to this point because its free and a number of friends and family use it. My goal would be to find a lightweight IM client that can connect to the AOL servers. I will load AIM, but hate all the spy-ware it tries to get you with.... |

You using Windoze? You can get gaim at http://gaim.sourceforge.net/downloads.php and trillian at http://www.trillian.cc/ I haven't used Trillian in a long time. Gaim seems pretty good. |

A second vote for Gaim here, and 3rd-4th-5th votes from techie friends who swear by it. I switched from Trillian a few months ago and never looked back. More stable, conversation logging, multiple clients, and improved versions every few weeks. Miles ahead of AIM. Oh yeah, completely free. |

Why does AIM have all that garbage, anyway? I don't understand what's in it for them. |

I have been using Trillian but it just makes me wish for something simple and elegant to use like iChat. Where is my Mac when I need it most? SERENITY NOW!!! |

I actually prefer the AIM client - you can decline to install the weatherbug and all that while installing... |
