Back again for your recommendations.

Was hoping to get a feel for some IM clients out there. I have used AIM to this point because its free and a number of friends and family use it.

My goal would be to find a lightweight IM client that can connect to the AOL servers. I will load AIM, but hate all the spy-ware it tries to get you with....

You using Windoze?

You can get gaim at http://gaim.sourceforge.net/downloads.php and trillian at http://www.trillian.cc/

I haven't used Trillian in a long time. Gaim seems pretty good.

A second vote for Gaim here, and 3rd-4th-5th votes from techie friends who swear by it. I switched from Trillian a few months ago and never looked back. More stable, conversation logging, multiple clients, and improved versions every few weeks. Miles ahead of AIM. Oh yeah, completely free.

Why does AIM have all that garbage, anyway?

I don't understand what's in it for them.

I have been using Trillian but it just makes me wish for something simple and elegant to use like iChat.

Where is my Mac when I need it most? SERENITY NOW!!!

I actually prefer the AIM client - you can decline to install the weatherbug and all that while installing...
