I am starting an online business and I need a seriously skilled e-commerce web designer to build and maintain my website which will be the heart of the business.

I've put out bids on places like e-lance for the work, and the best I've gotten was $10,000 for the site with no maintenance coverage.

I'm looking for a web designer that will work with me from the ground floor, for a share of the revenues (which should be relatively substantial). This isn't the next amazon or even close, but I have a great product, that is in demand, I've build a distribution network, and have everything in place to start making it work. Serious potential for the web designer to make several thousand dollars a month when we're rolling. Once the site is built there shouldn't be too much maintenance, but I have a spec, and the site will be pretty complex. Lots of PHP, Mysql, and scripting. Lots of graphic elements too.

This isn't a job for an inexperienced kid, but for a seasoned pro willing to take a chance and invest their time for high potential rewards. We'll be selling turnkey e-commerce websites to distributors of products. So basically from my main site, a person will be able to buy a ready to go website they customize through templates.

This isn't revolutionary, there are lots of sites doing just this kind of thing. Ours will have some unique tools, but its really the product that sells.

I'll give full details in person.

P/L me or message here if interested, or you know someone who might be.

Wow, $10,000 sounds like a lot. Is it possible that you could add your product to an existing web site, such as http://shopping.yahoo.com or http://www.amazon.com? Or perhaps you have a special need which requires your own site with a unique configuration.

I have a colleague who may be qualified to build a site for you. I sent him an email linking to this thread.

Unfortunately, the site will be a pretty big design.

It'll be a combination of yahoo stores (the main yahoo site that sells you the store, as well as the stores) and something like www.vistaprint.com where customers can design their own cards, labels, etc. All over the web. But this has nothing to do with printing cards, they just have a really good example of an easy to use web app that lets you create quality material from the web using templates.

There is the front end, the back end database work, The template creation, the domain creation and administration (there could be hundreds if not thousands of individual domains created), shopping cart integration, reporting, payment systems, and more.

Its a serious piece of programming work. Far more than just putting up a website, or online store.

To be honest, I'd much rather just pay a pro to do it because then I get to keep more of the profit, but I just don't have the money to plunk down. I'm already spending a lot to build the marketing campaign, and the distribution/shipping network.

I was hoping to find someone local that I can really work well with for the longer term.

We'll see. MOL hasn't failed me yet.

thats a good bit of work for one person. did the 10000 quote state how long or how many people would be working on it? Just curious, because you could probably use their estimate to udnerstand how long and how many people you should hire to do this.

One person can do it, but it would take longer. Most web developers can understand the database work, but there will need to be analysis done on interfacing with domain registars.

I'd love to "try" and help, but with a 5 month old, full time work, and a few side websites, I am tied up.

If you think I could help and want to PL me, feel free. I have experience building apps, web front ends, XSL templates, XML interfaces, and the like.

Be cautious about marketing a product before it's built. Especially one that relies on third parties.

I'm not really depending on 3rd parties.

I have a deal set up with the manufacturer. Its an existing product that is in a hugely growing field. We cut a deal that allows me to sell the product wholesale to my distributors for half of what it would cost anywhere else.

I'm going to be setting up distributorships kind of like Avon or Mary Kay, but 100% web based. I'm going to be targeting people that just want to make an extra $500-$1000 a month with relatively no effort (seriously).

The publications and tradeshows I'll have to target all need 3-4 months of lead time, so I have a deadline for the sites to be up and running. Realistically this is 1-2 months of development time for one all around designer. Less if we farm out the graphic design work, so its doable. There are plenty of open source tools that I plan on using, and buying a component or two is no problem either. I need someone to put it all together.

So people will be buying distributorships? Sounds a lot like pyramid sales.

Not MLM, more like Avon or Mary Kay or Tupperware.
