Yes, I have. It's pretty impressive, because it knows many file formats. It keeps an index of everything on your computer. The first time you start it up, it takes a long time, because it searches through each of your files. Thereafter, it looks at each file as you save it, which slows down your computer a bit. Not sure how much.

I'm disappointed that Google Earth doesn't work with Macs. This program is sooo cool. |

I tried it back when it was beta, haven't looked at it since, so take my comments with a grain of salt. It did a pretty good job on finding stuff, I used it for example to find stuff in source code for a huge project. Great help there. However, there were (are?) no privacy settings. If it's on your machine everybody can search all the files and webpages you have visited on your machine. In general I felt that it didn't have parameters/settings that I could have used to fine tune some of things that I wanted to do. If you are willing to pay a few bucks, there are better desktop search tools out there. Considering it's free it's not to bad. But especially the privacy shortcomings would stop me from ever using it on a work computer. |

I would use it predominantly for searching MS Word & Excel files. Is it faster than the standard Window search feature?

It is worlds faster than that, because when you initiate Windows search, it STARTS searching through your files. Google searches first and keeps an index handy. So when you query google desktop, it already knows where your object is.
