Does anyone else using Firefox run into trouble composing messages, and using the B, I, U and font/color/size options? If I compose my post, then want to add bold to a word, I normally do it by hand. But if I'm feeling lazy, and want to use the button, it puts the \b{ or \i{ at the end of the post, not where the cursor is.}

That's not only in Firefox, that's in any browser and is a 'feature' of the software. I guess the scripting language used to drive the board simply doesn't support this.
And it's not any different on other software packages like, vBulletin or phpBB.

rastro. I hate that too. That's why I manually type in my <b> tags. But there is no way around this for links. I try to type in <ahref> tags but they aren't supported in the software, so I have to suck it up and use that lame assed bottons above. It's just bad software.

Earlster, I don't run into it on IE on Windows. On IE, it puts the opening tag right where the cursor is, and then I can put the closing tag anywhere I like, again, by placing the cursor there ad clicking the formatting element

Alley.. you could simply do \newurl{<URL>,<text for link>}. It's not as intuitive, but it works...

From the software's creator:

quote:

The built-in formatting panel should insert the formatting tag at the position of the cursor, if your browser supports the more recent JavaScript directives that allow this to happen. If you have an older version of Internet Explorer or you're using a browser other than MSIE, then your browser may not support the JavaScript to make that work, and any formatting tags you select via the formatting panel will be inserted at the end of the message.

Are you sure, as that message implies, that firefox's javascript is old? If not, it sounds like they just haven't bothered to test with browsers other than IE.

Neither Safari nor Mac Firefox support js cursor positioning in a textarea.

Actually, I have a wiki application that allows me to do this, so I don't know what's going on.

Spoiler! Highlight hidden text to reveal.
AlleyGater, I can customize tags like this one (spoiler), so let me know what other tags you'd find useful

Also there are good reasons the board has to handle HTML this way. Allowing any tags would play havoc with tables and adding a </BODY></HTML> would end the page.

OK, but what about &amp; or &#151; or <font size="2"> <br> <p> <blockquote> none of those would mess up the HTML on the page as far as I can tell.

The one I really want the most though is the <font color="red">&#149;</font> to work. SO BADLY!!!
