I have limited connectivity on my wireless connection, because the network did not assign an IP address to my computer. I know what it means. Usually 'Repair' will fix it. If it doesn't, I cut power to the router for a minute and turn it on, and it is fixed. Once it worked after I added 192.168.1.1 to the 'trusted' category. But now I'm stumped. Other wireless stations work fine. The wired computer works fine. So the problem is between the router and my comp. I tried 'Repair', reseting the router, checking that DHCP was enabled on the router, turning off the firewall on my computer, restarting several times. Device manager says that the wireless ethernet card is working properly. I'm using Windows to configure the settings on an IntelPRO wireless card. I tried connecting to another wireless network in the neighborhood (you should really turn on your encryption) and got the same results. Suggestions? |

Did you try running (command line) ipconfig /release > to release the IP address to DHCP Server ipconfig /renew > to get a new IP adress from the DHCP Server on the pc that won't connect? If you look at the setting page for the router, can you see the laptop as connected to the router? |

The laptop does not register as connected to the router. I'll try the command lines in a moment... and got: "An error occurred with interface Wireless Network Connection: The requested service provider could not be loaded or initailized." |

Did you re-boot you laptop? Or, can you connect using a static IP? |

I think you should try to connect your laptop to your router with an ethernet cable. This may bring up something you're not noticing, and it verifies that at least the TCP/IP portion of your OS is working.

Yeah, I tried that yesterday, and I got the same issues. The problem's definately with my machine. Earl: Yes, and no. The router won't even register the connection. This was kinda the icing on the cake for this comp; I've been getting an increasing number of blue screens associated with everything from display drivers to anti-spyware software. I got tired of it last night and wiped the HD and started from scratch. The network adapters are working just fine now. Thanks all for your help. -A

Did you try removing and reinstall the TCP/IP settings? Since this happens for both wired and wireless you may have some corruption there. Go to network connections and properties for the conneciotn, uncheck the TCP/IP box and then remove it. You can than add it again under services. If you aren't sure about this, don't do it, ask someone more familar.

I hadn't thought about that at all, it would've been a heckuva lot simpler than what I did. If it happens again I'll remember. Thanks. - ALb |
