I'm attempting to run live update for the Norton Antivirus 2005 that came pre loaded on my new laptop.

When one of the updates I was told I needed -(below) will not download. When I try, I get an erro message. Does anyone know how to correct this? Thanks!

Certainly reinstall it, but also use their web-based virus checker... that'll let you know if you've had a problem that compromised your virus software. Its on the symantec website...

I went to the website to try to reinstall Norton, but if I do, my three months free turns into 15 days. I've used Norton for years on my computer that's being fixed. I have a paid subscription, through mid 2006; but I decided to keep using Norton 2004 on that computer. I've notice there are some added features on the version pre-loaded on the laptop. If I download the software from the website, will it know I'm supposed to get threee months, or will I only get 15 days? Thanks!

You can try to install a new version of live update first. That way you will not need to lose your free 3 months.
Go here
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/liveupdate/2.7/
Download and run the file lusetup-lt.exe

This may or may not work, but it is the first place to start. If that doesn't work you will need to fully uninstall Norton. Not through add/remove programs. Norton has specific removal instructions to completly remove it.
Post back here if installing live update works of not. If it doesn't I will find the links you will need.

You can also try Avast! anti virus. I dumped Norton after years and years. Avast! is free (you just register and they give you a key) and I've found it to be very good. It can be set to watch absolutely everything, web pages, IM, files, you name it.
