Does anyone use this? Does anyone know what the message below means? I keep getting it on the laptop I bought when I try to update the Norton 2005 pre installed on the laptop.

I followed one of the suggestion from MOL and redownloaded it from the website (loosing my free thre month in the process)

I still got the same message.

I finaly uninstalled Norton 2005 and reinstalled Norton SystemWorks 2004 (which I have a paid subscription through Aug 2006).

I still get the below message when I run Live Update.

Thanks!

Windoows XP 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2

Common Client Core 103.0.4

I would do this first, go to the following page at Symantec, and do the outlined steps to completly remove Norton products, http://tinyurl.com/bkns8

Then after restarting, and you still wish to use Norton, try re-installing the Norton apps, restart.
Is everything fine?

The second thing I would do, is to not use Norton.

The error message you are receiving suggests that you are running both SP2 and Norton at the same time on the same computer. These programs don't like eachother so you are faced with an either/or situation. Turn off the SP2 and your Norton should run with no problems.

If you are not sure how to do this, download the update for service pack 2. Your computer will then notice that both programs are running and will ask if you want to turn off the service pack 2 anti-virus and firewall. Just say "yes" to turning off both and you should be good to go.

Warning: Turning off means just that. Do not try to uninstall or delete sp2.

Hi Monster and Joan-
I've tried what both of you have suggested. Didn't work. I'm at my wits end! I'm taking the laptop back to Circut City to see if they can do anything. I have a feeling this computer is a discontinued modle. If it is there will be H#@@ to pay!

It's a HP Pavilion dv124us anyone know how new it is? From what the website said in relation to updates for it not being supported after I think it was 2004, I'm beginning to wonder!

Thanks for your help.
This is getting frustrating!

It could be that something went wrong with the initial Windows install, or the SP2 install, perhaps a clean install is called for.

Don't reinstall Windows - that's very aggressive for a problem like this.

Don't worry about the laptop not being supported - this is not a hardware problem, its strictly software.

PM me if you'd like to discuss...
