Ok -- so daughter's Zen Micro needs to go for service. We have Windows XP, and use the Creative MediaSource software to mange the music and rip music. But I have NO CLUE how to back up the whole 5 gig of the Zen to the PCs hard drive before we send it in for service (and no clue how to restore it when it comes back!). Lots of advice at the creative site (and via google, on the net) to "back up" the player -- but honestly, I have no clue how. She has about 4.8 gigs of music on the thing. Thanks for the help! I don't have a Zen, but I have an iPod. Unless it's VERY different, the Zen files are all created and stored on your computer, and then copied to the Zen, no? That means they're already backed up on the hard drive, you shouldn't have to worry about the Zen. That being said, it's much more crucial to back up your hard drive.. so much data can easily be lost when a drive fails. (And they do, believe me!) |

All the CDs were ripped right to the Zen, I never stored them on the PC. Some music was purchased online, and also straight to the Zen. That said -- the PC crashed anyway -- so now I'm working on a new machine. This is very frustrating! Almost 1000 tracks -- which I would hate to recreate from scratch! Thanks -- Pete |
