One digital camera is broken and the other, at least in the past, has not been compatible with Mac OSX.

So, I went to the Toshiba website and found there is an extension for this camera, a PDR-M81.

My husband bought the computer for me and set the whole thing up, so I have no idea how to access control panels and extension manager in OSX.

I just want to upload my pictures...

Any suggestions? I hate playing around with Extensions 'cause nothing ever seems to work right afterwards.

Get a card reader rather than connecting the camera to the computer. This is what I do. I connect the card reader to the computer. I insert the camera's memory card into the card reader. Works really well with no special software. Actually, there is special software called a device driver, but you usually don't notice it.

This is the card reader I got, but you can get one almost anywhere, such as CompUSA or http://www.jr.com

We had a card reader Tom, and it died after a few months. I suppose for the price I am better off just getting another one.
We have no luck with this new technology lately!

I think that was unusually bad luck. I have a card reader I've been using for years. And even if they last a year, it's only $20.

OSX doesn't have a control panel or extension manager like OS9 did. If you're going buy a new card reader, I'd suggest the Apple store, to be sure of its compatability with OSX.
I looked at Toshiba's website, that information appears to be for older computers running OS9.

Have you tried connecting your camera to the mac and opening iPhoto?

sn't see a camera there.
WOW! I just tried the card reader and it worked. That's weird. Maybe it orks with the Smart Media but not the Compact Flash card. (It had in the past and then it stopped.)
Glad I didn't toss it.

(DUH!)
