All right, tech geniuses. I'm sitting here looking at my brand new Motorola E815 and wondering who the heck am I going to get the data out of my old Motorola T730 transferred. I know Verizon Wireless will do it for a charge, but I think that if I get the USB data kit I can do it myself, plus I'll be able to do the same for my wife when she gets a new phone (she's also got a T730 and is due for a new phone).

Does anyone have experience with this?

I did it with my old T720 phone. I got a kit with a program and usb cable, and transferred my phone data onto my computer. I was able to update and save the info.

When I got my new phone Verizon transferred the data for no charge. I never got a new cable for the new phone though...

yep Verizon will do it for free initially.

that said, you can buy a data cable for a few bucks, and there is shareware BITpm (do a google for one of the geek phone web sites) -- that allows you to transfer data, pictures, etc. very easily. a lot cheaper than paying Verizon rates to email yourself photos!

Verizon did that for me as well, no charge.
At the time, I was rather disapointed that Verizon had disabled so many bluetooth functions in their phones. I think the Verizon guy did it just to make me feel a little better about signing another two year contract and having to settle for much less than I'd wanted.
If bluetooth was allowed to work as it can, your bluetooth-equipped car would just know you're in the car and it's sound system would handle your calls, you would be able to sync your PDA & computer with your phone, download your pics to your computer.. sigh.. so much potential wasted just so they can charge to email pics from your phone.

There is a hack that you can do on the E815 that will enable this feature via blutooth, and other features as well.

You callin' me a hack?

Okay, I went to eBay and for 11 bucks I picked up a cable and the Motorola software - I just hope it's legit. I didn't think to look for a shareware application.

This is my first ever bluetooth phone ... my work laptop has bluetooth, so I'm brand new to the world. Can anyone tell me why the term "bluetooth?" Sounds like a pirate with poor dental hygiene. "Avast, ye swabs, and prepare to be boarded by the dread pirate Bluetooth, who will change all the settings on yer frigate arrrrrrr!"

So look for plenty of questions about bluetooth in days to come, specifically regarding shipping photos and music back and forth betwixt PC and phone.

A pirate, not a private.

I'll never be able to use the word "swashbuckler" again.
