Which is considered 'newer?' Thanks!

There are also a fair amount of issues with 98; if possible you should consider upgrading to XP... BUT if you have to buy the software, you may want to consider buying a whole new computer (the prices are pretty good these days, and a 98 machine maybe too old to bother putting money into).

Well.. Microsoft is scheduled to release an entirely new operating system next year - late in the year most likely.
It was code named Longhorn, they finally released its final product name - Vista.
It will replace XP, so you might want to wait for another year, if you can.
98 will work on basic stuff, XP is better, but hopefully, Vista will be their best OS yet.

Of course, if you're going to buy a new computer, you could consider a Mac, maybe even a Mini - they start at 499.00, you keep your keyboard, mouse and monitor.
No virus issues, no spyware, no "bluescreen of death".

Windows users may have to consider buying new machines after Vista is released. Rumors are, it will require a pretty sophisticated computer.

Windows 98 came out in about 1998. XP came out in 2001 or 2002. XP is much more reliable and capable. It's not an improvement. It's a rewrite, designed to look like a mere enhancement, but it's much better under the hood.

Why do you ask, Auntie?

You know, she has done this in the past - tease us with a question and then disappear.

Its so unfair.

I actually found a copy of Windows 98 today. I haven't seen one in a while.
