Calm down, this isn't about what anyone wears while posting on MOL.

The FCC approved the Verizon takeover of MCI today, and as one of the conditions -

Quote:

Verizon also agreed to provide a stand-alone DSL service, or service that was not bundled with traditional voice service, within 12 months of the closing dates of the deals.

Blair Levin, an analyst with Legg Mason, said the so-called "Naked DSL" provision could benefit voice over internet protocol (VoIP) providers and wireless carriers seeking to persuade customers to leave traditional Bell landline voice service.

In other words, you won't have to pay for phone service, to get DSL service. There is some question as to what this really means, since the price may not be regulated.

Is the price of cable modem service regulated? They charge $5 or $10 extra if you get cable modem service if you don't have cable TV service. That seems sort-of OK with me.

I notice cable modem service rates are going up while DSL rates are going down.
