I have two PCs at home, one with a Linksys router and the other with a wireless receiver. It works great. Now, I'd like to add a laptop to the network. What do I need to buy to add to the laptop (it's relatively old - PIII - with Windows 2000. What else would I need to purchase? Is the set-up difficult?

You need to get Wi-Fi adapter. You can get a "PC card" or USB type. Here's a sample. Should be simple to install.

Jeff;

Is the Linksys router a wireless router? One PC has a direct Ethernet connection and the other PC is connection via the WiFi connection? If so you just need a PCMCIA based wireless NIC. You probably want to stick with the same manufacturer, I personally am not a big Linksys fan - I recently installed a wireless system using the MIMO specification (Multiple In Multipe Out) the range and speed are light years ahead of what existed before - the MIMO wireless devices are just starting to hit the market - years before I predicted when I discussed the concept for the first time in May of 2003, then it was only on the drawing board - but the advantage far outweighs the slightly higher cost.
Make sure you have SP6 on the Windows 2000 laptop.

Short answer, it should be a fairly straightforward setup. If you run into problems post here and let us know.

Let me know if you want help making it secure. The default settings allow any neighbor or passer-by to share your network, which makes it easy to browse through your computers if he's interested in doing so.
