I have two PCs at home, one with a Linksys router and the other with a wireless receiver. It works great. Now, I'd like to add a laptop to the network. What do I need to buy to add to the laptop (it's relatively old - PIII - with Windows 2000. What else would I need to purchase? Is the set-up difficult? |

You need to get Wi-Fi adapter. You can get a "PC card" or USB type. Here's a sample. Should be simple to install. http://tinyurl.com/bo2ln |

Jeff; Is the Linksys router a wireless router? One PC has a direct Ethernet connection and the other PC is connection via the WiFi connection? If so you just need a PCMCIA based wireless NIC. You probably want to stick with the same manufacturer, I personally am not a big Linksys fan - I recently installed a wireless system using the MIMO specification (Multiple In Multipe Out) the range and speed are light years ahead of what existed before - the MIMO wireless devices are just starting to hit the market - years before I predicted when I discussed the concept for the first time in May of 2003, then it was only on the drawing board - but the advantage far outweighs the slightly higher cost. Make sure you have SP6 on the Windows 2000 laptop. |

Short answer, it should be a fairly straightforward setup. If you run into problems post here and let us know. |

Let me know if you want help making it secure. The default settings allow any neighbor or passer-by to share your network, which makes it easy to browse through your computers if he's interested in doing so. |
