Dave, Jamie, Anyone: I created a thread re LCD TV's. At the top of my thread, a completely unrelated thread has been posted: "Please help me understand why the Maplewood Library ...stays closed on 1/2 days??" Why does this thread come to live with mine, visible when looking at my LCD TV thread? Many thanks, David |

This happens when someone creates a new thread without leaving the thread they are in. Basically, the other person screwed up. It happens all the time. |

The software should not allow this to happen. Does that new thread then show up in the thread list? |

It has now happened to my thread about new threads!!!!! See above!! It is vile that the software allows this to happen...confusion and distress must reign when this occurs... Does the board need new and better software or can this be configured so one can only post a new threads at the "top level" of a category? Dave, Jamie, any thoughts?? Many thanks, David |

Also, to answer my own question, when you piggy back a thread on top of an existing one, you don't show up in the thread list in the overall category within which you have attempted to post. So....Wolfy who wants to know about "Presario Memory Upgrade" is not likely to get lots of attention to his or her query...yes, I think people should be able to figure out that they shouldn't do this but more importantly as I've said, the sw shouldn't allow it to occur. Rant well, all. David |

David: The software when used properly allows for branching discussions which should actually make things easier for everyone. Let's say that poster A starts a discussion on topic 1 which leads to an interesting and initially relevant thread drift on topic 2. Rather than pollute the topic 1 discussion, topic 2 can be started as a new sub-topic without taking away from the original thread discussion. That's the theory anyway. In practice, I have seldom seen this function used effectively. More often, a poster creating a thread within a thread discussion is more apt to sign onto please help or technical support and start moaning that their extremely important thread (at least important to them) has been deleted and demand that it be returned. |
