Ask http://www.froogle.com and you may want to toss the lowest one or two quotes, because those dealers may be shady. I like buying gadgets from http://www.jr.com because they're decent and helpful. If their price isn't rock bottom, the shipping may be cheaper, and it definitely is fast, since they're in NYC.

You can sometimes get surprisingly good deals at www.mysimon.com; its not a store, its a search engine. Don't trust it completely, of course - I always have one or two 'fallback' stores that I check regardless. In terms of memory, I'm guessing this is for a camera? My guess is that 512 will be more than enough, unless you're shooting a lot of little video clips. This is strictly storage, remember, so its up to you how much to buy. Good luck! |

Wow Tom and Case! After checking the sites you suggested I discovered I got a GREAT deal on what I bought. I bought 8 of the PNY 512MB Attache Flash Drive for $9.99 each! The 1GB was $30. They are for my computer; plus I plan to use them as part of Christmas 'packages' I'm making for some of my nephews. BTW- Tom did you get my email? |

Yikes. The prices have gone into the basement since I last had to purchase flash - those are amazing prices. Would you mind posting where you wound up buying? |

Best Buy on Friday. With a rebate they were $20. But, Stables had them for $9.99 (after a rebate), limit one to a person. Of course they were all gone at Staples. BB happened to have the same ones ad a lot of them with no limit for the $20. I asked if they would honor the price of the competition, even though it was 'black friday.' The sales person asked if I had a copy of the ad, which I did. He looked at it and said 'Yesy, we will honor the price.' I was very surprised when I got home to discover he gave me all 8 at the $9.99 price. More so when my friend told me stores don't usually honor other stores prices if a rebater is involved. The drives otherwise were about $80. |

You made out like a bandit - that's a deal that no one will be able to beat for many, many years. |

Ligeti, did you get ahold of that book? If not, I'll loan you my copy. After you read it, you will be insufferable.

"...will be insufferable"? I thought I had already achieved that exalted status. Thank you. I'll PL you about the book. I thought I'd find it at the Montclair Book Exchange, but no luck. I'm now officially snubbing online shopping. Reason: i.d. and credit card theft. Even the most astute technologists can only imagine the tip of the iceberg. My prediction is widespread calamity. The real and present danger of circulating your credit card, social security and various account numbers across the Internet is simply unknown. Go low-tech whenever possible, and lead a richer, safer, happier life. Reject Case and his noisy elecronic gadgets. |

Yawn. I preferred it when he was stalking the hairy guy, threatening people with guns, and writing his manifesto. This is just lame. I wonder how many of the 'cabal' are real, and how many are imaginary? |

Actually, much more identity theft occurs offline than online. How tough is it to copy down a few number when the waiter takes your credit card away from the table? For the most part, I'm comfortable with the online shops I buy from. But then, I typically buy from places I know. And while you always hear about high profile online theft issues because they're new and hot, you never hear about the thousands and thousands of low tech identity thefts that occur every year. |

True, but its fashionable to whine and complain about internet services. Who would care about a clerk that copies down your card number? I suspect that virtually all companies offer zero liability for fraud, anyway, so its somewhat of a moot point.
