Does anyone happen to use one of these? I'm so aggravated I ready to spit mails!!! Long story short I had my combination Direct TV / Tivo box moved from my room to my nephew's room and ordered the Direct TV R15 to replace what was in my room. Main reason larger hard drive for storage. Well I was told it was just as easy to use as Tivo. Guess what, it isn't!!! Unless I'm doing something incorrectly, this thing is worse to use then a VCR!!! With Tivo all I had to do was click on 'choose program to record,' (or whatever it said), enter the name of the show I wanted to watch; hit 'enter/ select, and wait for the date and time of the show to pop up. Another click on 'view other showings,; (or whatever it said) would bring up the dares and times of the show (if any) for the next two weeks. Now, I have to day the date and time and channel search for it in the program guied, and a bunch of other garbage. I know these's got to be something I'm missing, right? Would you believe none of the more then half dozen people I skope with at Direct TV even had a DVR? |

The DVR that our cable company offers is the easiest thing to program and view. It remembers shows that are "weekly records" even if the program is preempted on any given week. I don't know if the TIVO system is all that much different, but I am not certain. |

I have the R10 (which is the last of the TiVo units DirecTV offered), so I have no first-hand knowledge of the R15. However, I am a frequent reader of the message boards at TiVoCommunity.com, and there is a rather extensive review of the R15 available there. Much of the information is very technical in nature, but I am sure a lot of it will be interesting/helpful to you. Here's the link: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=270214&highlight=review+r1 5 |

Brick- Thanks. I'm going to check it out tomorrow. I'm going on about five hours sleep since Thursday night. I went to circuit city today and bought an R10. Supposedly Direct TV is going to try to work something out with me. But I knew they only had a few of these left between CC and BB. I grabbed one just to be sure I had it. What gets me the most is since I posted my note a little more then 14 hours ago I spoke with another 5 or 6 Direct TV people who have no clue about this stupid thing!!! TIVO was / is SO easy!!! I was also told the RCA modle will work. I just don't want to get charged the additional fee of $36 plus tax from TIVO for using this box I bought today over the one Direct TV sent. The R15 is worse then trying to program a VCR... |

Yeah, it's hard to beat TiVo for ease of use. Up until May, I was using one of the original Phillips 14-hour TiVo units from when they first hit the market, which I had modified at one point to add a 80GB hard drive. I got a DirecTiVo in May when we switched over from Comcast. Moved the Phillips unit to the bedroom until I realized the days of DirecTiVos was severely numbered, so I ran out and got what appeared to be the last R-10 unit at Best Buy on Route 22. Now I'm using the R-10 in the bedroom (smaller, and integrated with the satellite receiver) and giving the Phillips (still going strong) to my sister. Haha...not that you asked for my TiVo history. I'm not sure what fee you're referring to. The DirecTV fee for TiVo service is, like, $5 or $6 per month, regardless of the number of receivers. Anyway, good luck to you. |

Pig I picked up a Direct TV / Tivo combined unit Sunday just in case. Turns out it is a 70 hour unit. I think it's an R-10 .. Seems they messed up with not only the 'relocate' of the box from my bedroom to the kids; but the R-15. I discovered this morning the Direct TV DVR was not hooked up correctly as I can't record two shows at the same time...

This may be information you already know, but if you haven't had dual tuners in the past, it may require that DirecTV send out a tech to run another line from your dish. Dual tuners require dual feeds. The R-10 (and probably the R-15, for that matter) will function just fine with only one line in, but as you say, you won't be able to record two things at once. |
