I am looking for an audio driver for a HP Pavilion 6640c. The sound is built on to the motherboard. I am using windows 98se. The motherboard is an ASUS P5S-VM. I have been looking everywhere on the web for these drivers. Does anyone know somehwere I can find these drivers?

Perhaps it goes without saying, but you might save yourself a bunch of trouble by buying a new computer. Windows 98 is old and troublesome to keep running.

If you're dead set against that, you might be able to add a new sound card and abandon the built-in sound.

If you can't part with this machine, why not just install a PCI sound card and disable the on board audio Regardless of brand, it's probably going to be better than the on board.(IMHO)

Two long shots, which I'm sure you have already tried since they are in the check and see if it is plugged in category but worth posting just in case you haven't tried the obvious:

1. Try looking on HP's website or contacting them and asking where the drivers can be found.

2. Try googling key words such as HP Pavilion 6640c audio driver and see if you get any hits.

Search for P5S. Follow the P5S-VM link and scroll down a little. I thought you would find that by yourself.

Mayor, are you blind, or have you just been doin' a little sumthin' sumthin'?

You can find what you need if you follow the link on the dot, just click it, unzip it, & do a search for new drivers.

Damn, I must be blind. I looked at the Asus website for about 25 minutes and didn't see anything. HP had nothing on their site. And all the driver websites that I usually end up going to had nothing on them. Thanks everyone.

The computer is not mine, and I know that there is no chance of them upgrading it, or getting a new one. Actually the only reason it can really handle windows 98 is because I upgraded the ram a while back. Then I had no ram for another computer I built, and BETS was nice enough to get me some.

Did you click on the red dot in my post above?

It's a link to "HP_Chameleon_9x.zip" file, it should contain the drivers you need, along with a few you may not need. Give it a try, I bet it has what you need.
