I have Comcast cable and my email Spam is getting worse and worse. I tried setting my filter on but it's not helping. I get the weirdest titles...some like: Soak Store undo prophesize Libido is mirrored calibrate ETC. I got a new email address, it started getting loaded down too. I can continue to delete them but for whatever reason it really bugs me! |

Don't use comcast. Use gmail. They have the best spam protection I have ever seen. Send me an email at noglider@gmail.com if you want an invitation to gmail. You can't just go to the web site and sign up. Even if comcast spam protection were good, I wouldn't use it, because I don't like my email address tied to my ISP. My ISP can change, but I don't want my email address to change.

Those weird titles are to thwart spam filters. Spam filters look for keywords that are likely to be spam. The weirder the title, the harder the mail is to flag. But titles are not the only clue.

I must report 5 to 10 letters a day "as spam" to Comcast! The subject lines seem highly suggestive as porn potential. I don't even peek, however, to see what they're all about! This to me is so much unnecessary cleanup before I get to my real email. Very annoying! I really hate going to the fuss of changing addresses or ISP. |

But changing would be an investment, because you wouldn't have to spend that time daily, sifting through the chaff. And I think it's useless to report spam. No one does anything about it, because no one can. And I think comcast doesn't care anyway. If they cared, I wouldn't be receiving any mail to the address I have never given to anyone and have never sent mail from.

I hardly see any spam from comcast, if you log into your mail via webmail, you can turn on spam filters, I also have set rules in my mail program that have been working pretty good. Most spam I get gets deleted before I ever see it. |

I used to get a huge amount of spam from my verizon account, switched from DSL to cable a year ago. I've only had a few spam emails to my optonline.net address in the last year, but I don't use that address much. I use a gmail address when I need to give an address to some site on the web - and I don't think I've ever gotten any spam at that address. I think Tom is right - get a gmail address. It's free, they give you lots of storage space, and you can use it as long as Google is around (quite a while longer, I'm sure). |
