I just want to thank Jamie and Dave for this site. I left the Maplewood/ South Orange area a long time ago. I found this site when looking for information about CHS and am glad I did. I don't post unless I have a compelling reason to. I feel this is for you who live in Maplewood/SO not someone who left in 70's. I come to this site finding information I can pass to my old CHS classmates that you are posting on this site. I also read with interest the various discussions on current events going on in the Maplewood /SO area. I find it interesting and commend all of you for keeping Maplewood in which I grew up in and SO where I hung at Grunnings a long, long time ago. It still seems still the type of community in which you can raise your children and know your neighbors like when I lived there. I have been back a couple of times and Maplewood hasn't changed from the 60's in appearance from what I saw. I visited an old neighbors that still live on Concord Ave ( in 90's now) and was pleasantly surprised their house and the one I grew up in hadn't changed a bit except a vacant lot across the street from house I lived had a house built on the empty lot. I know from reading discussions that there is an argument about having a Bed and Breakfast lodging in Maplewood. I mean no disrespect for anyone's views on this matter. But if I could interject my view, If there was a Bed & Breakfast facility in the Maplewood/SO area I along with my family would have used it.The reason why was: My brother and his family and me and mine came back to Jersey for a family gathering. My brother and me made a special effort to show where we grew up to our wives and children (I brought my grandchildren, brother isn't so lucky so far). We stayed at a Hotel . But if there was a Bed & Breakfast in Maplewood /SO area we would have stayed there because both my brother and I wanted to show our children what Maplewood looked like. We also would have had more time to show them how good a place Maplewood was when we lived there and how it hadn't changed. I say that, because I saw a great neighborhood that looked the same from one I left and talking to my old neighbor. You Maplewood residents should be proud, I won't give a complement unless it's deserved. In closing I would like to state I'm glad the students of CHS have the same conditions my Class of 64 had. Shows no matter how long some things remain the same! But on Bed&Breakfast issue, I might not have the right to, but I will say, you should think deeply about letting Art have his B&B. I know I would stay there rather than a Hotel or Motel when I'm in Maplewood/SO area. I'll even provide the leaf blowers if I have a party there (shows I have been reading discussions about B&B). Sorry about length of this post. I just appreciate the town I grew up in. I also would like to know about the Concord Ave Area around Prospect St. I grew up at 71 Concord Ave . |
