anotherkittie, I'm not as biased as some people, so please believe me when I say you should really read the blog from the beginning. It's wonderful, from the opening post where you'll read, among other things, "Yes, folks, it's true. Pippi and I are thrilled to announce that we're due to have a baby on or around Christmas!" to all the little details that Pippi is keeping track of to help her become the best parent she can, which I'm sure will be quite wonderful. Pippi, found an audio tape of the corniest songs for ones and twos that I discovered in a pile of stuff the other day. My son loved them so I would like to give it to you one of these days. |

anotherkittie - As Wendy mentioned, I am due around Christmas. You know how these dates change, though...first it was 12/24, then 12/22 and now 12/25. Wendy - We'd be honored to take the music! thanks for thinking of us

This is a lullaby I wrote for Mrbtabr... Actually, I started writing it for my friend's baby a few years ago and never got it done, but I think it's ready now. The sun goes down The leaves turn brown And I know you'll wonder why And believe me, so did I The moon's shape can change And bugs are so strange It's amazing just to see How peculiar things can be Look at these curiosities, they muddle up your mind Questions do have answers true, though some are hard to find I don't know everything, but anything I know I'll share So just stick with me, we'll see what we can see Bats and birds can fly But a cat can't nor can I But I can get on a plane To take me to Maine and Spain Snow is so cold And a mountain's tall and old And the clouds are grey or white Though they're hard to see at night There is so very much to know, so much to learn about Like why is the sky so high that I can't touch it when I'm out I don't know everything, but anything I know I'll share So just stick with me, we'll see what we can see Some things stay And others go away And sometimes it's hard to know Which will stay and which will go A minute can be long And a word can be a song And a day goes by so fast When you're hoping it will last So many numbers, words, and colors, flavors, shapes and sounds Right from the start know that your heart is where the truth abounds I don't know everything, but anything I know I'll share So just stick with me, we'll see what we can see |

Secret alternative ending: Let a computer be your tutor, that's just what you need But first things first so your brain won't burst, you'd better learn to read! I don't know everything, but everything is now online So just hit the Web, I'm sure that you'll be fine.

Sorry if you'd already seen/wrote about this. As a fellow soon-to-be first-time dad (expecting early February), I came across the following and thought you might appreciate it:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0767922492/ref=wl_it_dp/002-3100691-3960861?ie=UTF8&coliid=I48TV6X6109RI&colid=12XJEYFRX78ET I'd flipped through it at the bookstore and was impressed with how useful it is! Besides random cool games to entertain your kid, it provides a much-needed refresher course on various things that should be common knowledge (how *does* thunder work, anyway?). |

Doulamomma - would love to borrow the book, thanks. Do you have any books on Lamaze? I think I'd like to read about options before signing up for a class. FWIW, not sre I mentioned this: I asked my doctor what his honest opinion of Lamaze is; should we take the classes. He said no, he didn't think it was worth it for me. I really really appreciated his honesty, bt we'll ultimately make our own deicison. Project - that looks like a really cool book! Might inspire Notehead to add to the song lyrics! Shhhhh...Notehead's birthday is coming up.....could be a good gift. |

Pippi, I'm not a Lamaze teacher (I'm certified in the Bradley Method), but I will say that they have come a long way & their organization's message of "normal birth" & their revamped method is wonderful, I think. The trick is that there are tons of teachers out there & many of them may have trained a looong time ago & not be teaching "new" Lamaze. In general, I think (depending on the person/couple & what they want out of a class)out-of-hospital classes are a benefit. I don't have the book, but their website is helpful: www.lamaze.org Also, the new issue of Mothering magazine is their pregnancy/birth issue, with tons of info on cloth diapers etc...I know you all have done the research already, but you might find the issue helpful. you can email me at doulamomma1@hotmail.com to arrange to borrow the book(s) best, Kim |

Notehead - what an awesome song! Pippi gave me a teensy preview, but seeing the words just made it all the more.....moving. Hope to get to hear the fully musical version sometime soon. Btw, I agree with Pippi re: the alternate ending. However, may I borrow it? |

"Pippi gave me a teensy preview" I sure couldn't do it justice, but I think you got the idea, right ess? "Hope to get to hear the fully musical version sometime soon. " Me too! How's it coming honey?
Actually Notehead has been soooo busy I sure don't expect music (not to mention a recorded version) before, oh, say ...January!

Pip & Notehead: My brother has twins. They are adorable and I can't see why they all don't come in matched sets. But, trust me - it looks better on paper than in execution! I haven't been able to keep up, but are we having a baby pool? I know that we're doing a baby shower after MRBTABR is born, right? Piphead - Please pick a due date that you are most comfortable with. We need to pick the following: Date of Birth Weight Length of labor Am I missing anything? Closest to each without going over wins. $5 per category per person.

GT - Never participated in a baby pool before....so what do we do, tell y'all the due date and then we go from there? Can we join the pool? I promise not to "fix it", no duct tape or anything! (as if it were even possible!!) a shower after Mrbtabr is born would be lovely. We may even give Mrbtabr a real name by then
And NO, Notehead, it won't be MERV!!!

Pip - not that I don't trust you, but, in all fairness, we would get the answers to all the questions from you. So, no. You can't play. Although, have you thought of using the duct tape after Mrbtabr is born? It's so versatile and relatively cost-effective. You could strap the baby to your chest, down on a coffee table, the front of a grocery cart, into the back seat. And it's waterproof, so tape on some paper towels instead of a diaper. Think of all the paraphenalia you wouldn't have to buy. And you can adjust the amount of tape as the baby grows. No waste! |

"Although, have you thought of using the duct tape after Mrbtabr is born?" Absolutely. But we see it as a way to leave the baby home when we go run errands, go to dinner. (I sure don't want to have to worry about someone calling the cops on me when I leave the kid in the car to go get my dry cleaning! I'd rather just leave Mrbtabr home) We are also looking into purchasing one of those small bar-size refrigerators, when duct tape just isn't enough...and also, so the neighbors don't complain. |

The duct tape will clearly be necessary, since the kid may be strong enough and clever enough to escape from the vegetable crisper in the refrigerator without it. |

Mrbtabr and I went to visit grandma in Florida this past weekend (Left Notehead home). My mom hadn't seen me all big and pregnant yet and she couldn't wait any longer! We had a great visit. She is so excited. It's not her first grandchild, but her other grandchildren are so old, she forgot what it's like! (They are 20 and 21) We went to "visit" my father while we were down there, too. My dad passed away 3 years ago and Mrbtabr will be named for him. Milestones in my life will always be difficult without him, this one feels particularly hard. We went to visit his grave site and his stone reads "Beloved husband, father, grandfather" and it really hit home that Mrbtabr will not know what a wonderful man his grandfather was, what a wonderful grandfather he was. He will have 3 terrific grandparents, and I am so grateful for that, but there will always be someone missing.

Pip - I can't even imagine what it must be like to miss your father during such a significant time. Your child will get to know him though through your stories - share as many great memories as you can with your child. My grandfather on my father's side died when I was 6 months old from colon cancer. Of course, I wish I had a chance to meet him, but the wonderful thing is that my family filled me with the memories they had of him. I'm the youngest, so my siblings had stories, and of course, my father told stories of what it was like growing up with my grandfather. I have to say, I feel like I knew him because of what they shared with me. I swear I can even imagine the hearty laugh he must have had. As long as you share your memories with your child, they will know him in a significant way. I know it's not the same, but your child will be grateful that s/he got to know him through you and other family members. |

I can vouch for what Lil says, Pip. I remember all my grandparents, but my youngest brother doesn't. I tell him stories all the time. It doesn't make up for not meeting them (especially GMF's husband who, believe it or not, was the most wonderful man in the world) but he knows who they are and can see some of them in himself when we point it out. |

Thanks LilB and GT. I am stockpiling up the very best and funniest stories....and there are many! Notehead never really got to know my father either. We met when my dad was already ill and I don't think the man he met was the man he really was. I try to give him a sense of who he was and to give him and idea of his personality. Sometimes it falls flat because, well, "you had to be there"

Pip......Glad you and Mom had a great visit. I know it is going to be hard without your Dad around, but I have no doubt that Mutter Butter will know and love him as if he were here. He is with you in your heart, always. I am sure you will show MB pictures of Grandpa and MB will get to know him and love him through the stories that everyone shares. I was a baby when my Nana died and when I see pictures of her, my heart fills with love as if I knew her all of my life. I thank my parents for sharing stories with me always!! And if that doesn't help, I hope this will.... |

Pippi....both of my children were named after my grandparents. Even though they, of course, never were able to meet them, both little Esses refer, occasionally, to them and ask questions about them. In that way, I keep them alive with me. By naming Mrbtabr after your father, and by sharing all of your wonderful memories with him/her, you, too, will keep your dad alive. |
