Here's the lowdown on Magmasystems: Originally from Queens, moved to Millburn in 1988. Went to Stuyvesant High School, then BS from SUNY Albnay, MS from Univ of Arizona, and an aborted PHD attempt at the Courant Institute of Mathematics at NYU. I was one of the first Microsoft Windows developers on Wall Street. Wrote a bunch of trading systems for the biggies. Then had a bright idea and started my own software company in 1988. The big product was a "Windows emulator" for DOS and Unix systems. The product was a success while DOS systems were still being used. As demand waned, I sold the company in 1995 and went back into consulting. I have been consulting ever since. I finally got tired of the inane politics of my clients, and in March 2002, I left consulting because... I had another bright idea to try to become a professional classical musician. In college, I had a double major in music and compsci. However, the arts are in big trouble, and it is difficult to make a living as a percussionist if you did not go to music school around here (hard to make professional contacts). At the start of 2003, I started my own computer business called All Things Computered. I do computer troubleshooting, computer upgrades, home and biz networking, tutoring, custom development, websites, etc. I have already had a number of clients in the Maplewood and Millburn areas. It is rewarding to go into someone's home, fix their system, and see the relief on their faces! Being an entrepreneur, I am always looking to team up with non-computer professionals who have bright ideas and can market the h*ll out of those ideas. I also teach drumset and percussion lessons in the area. I am always willing to take new students, both advanced and beginner. In addition to the classical percussion instruments (mallets, rudimental snare, timpani, traps), I teach drumset... anything from rock to jazz to blues. I play with a lot of orchestras and bands around here. Summit, South Orange, and Ridgewood Symphony Orchestras, Ridgewood and Westfield Concert Bands, several theater companies, and the Nostalgia Big Band. I have two kids in the Millburn school system. My wife works in the city for a large management consulting company. My son was the All-Region-1 timpanist in 2003.
