Actually, that sounds like fun. At least you have Net access. I guess we'll see you back in Maplewood sometime around spring thaw? |

Thank God we have net access, my husband has his guitar, we have food and heat and television, loads of books, etc. It's just weird to not be *able* to leave, even if we wanted to. I took some pictures today of the eight foot drifts and buried cars, which I will post when I get back, so we can all appreciate Maplewood weather even more. As long as the restaurant in this hotel stays open, there will be no Donner-party action. If y'all see me posting that my husband's toes are starting to look like cocktail weiners, SEND HELP!! And yes, look for me to be gracing the streets of Maplewood by April or so. Someone may have to look after my dog and cats until then, because if we keep them at Best Friends any more than ten days, we'll have to declare bankruptcy. |

Buffalojoe: Amazing! I was just watching the t.v. coverage on the snow scene in Buffalo. Hear the national guard was just called in to aide in Buffalo's snow removal. Enjoy the quiet time while you can. |

Buffy, I wish I was 5' 7" and weighed under 140. You sound like a goddess to me! Weight watchers indeed. That was hideous. |

Alidah -- I hope you check in here. Thanks for your opinion in the "What RU wearing today" thread. I'm frankly appalled at the resentment I'm getting from the women in there. What I had hoped would be a light-hearted girlie-fun thread turned into a catfight and Shh's final post just turned my stomach. Perhaps if she had known that I have had four miscarriages in the last two years, she wouldn't have been so vile. I have alittle trouble sympathizing with someone who is nine months pregnant and bitter enough to wish sagging tits and frumpiness on another woman. Obviously, I'd give my right arm to be in her position. Nothing is so disheartening to me as women mistreating other women out of cattiness or envy or bitterness. I won't be a part of that toxicity, so I'm out of that thread. And neither I nor my husband appreciated her comments about HER husband coming over and impregnating me. Can you imagine how hearing that would feel to a husband and wife who have lost four babies? It's unforgivably insensitive and crude, with an undercurrent of aggression that really disturbed me. Anyway, I appreciated your kind comments -- I find it an interesting pathology in that thread: One woman (me) revealing bits of herself and suffering ridicule for her clothes, her hair, her writing, the circumstances in which she writes, etc. etc. And the ridiculers? Sit back complacently revealing nothing about themselves, but quite happily passing judgement. As far as I can see, apart from my little half tongue-in-cheek Dockers rant, I said nothing offensive. Guess I need to gain fifty pounds, wait for my boobs to sag, stop being interested in fashion, stop writing, stop taking road trips, stop taking care of myself, grow slovenly and bitter to be acceptable. I am certainly not claiming that I am perfectly evolved as a woman -- that I don't have insecurities and envy and body-issues. But I try, I really try, to examine and dispense with any base and damaging feelings wrt the issues that women have traditionally used to damage each other, starting in adolescence. I hold out no hope for some sort of global, supportive sisterhood of women, but I think we can all try harder to look beyond the material envy, the ageism, the bitterness. Why can't the reactions in that thread have been supportive? Why did it have to devolve into a sneering catfight? Why is it inherently bad or offensive that I wear Prada mules or cashmere? I belong to another online community of female writers and artists, and in addition to threads about our work, and our passions and hobbies and authors and artist we like, there are a few threads dedicated to cosmetics, clothing, shopping, etc. And the women there are *so* lovely and non-competitive...think I'll stick to that forum from now on for discussing girlie stuff. I hope that Kdoll and Shh and the others have enough respect for me to not drag their ridicule into *this* thread. So, this is for them: I get it, OK. I'm a pretentious asshole. I am a label-whore. I am immature for writing my books while traveling by RV. I'm not a real woman because I have not experienced the ultimate self-sacrifice of bearing children and putting *them* first. I talk about my breasts too much. I shouldn't wear red nail polish on my toes. I GET IT. I'm playing victim by admitting that I am hurt by the ridicule -- I am looking for sympathy. I get it. I know how you feel. Loud & clear, girls. Now let it rest. |

Buffy, Buffy,Buffy, You are confusing your own thread with real life! From the very beginning of the "What are you Wearing now?" thread, which you started, the tone set was HIGH DRAMA bodice-ripping dark and stormy night of "What are you NOT Wearing now?" It's the antithesis of the original topic, the cool, intellectual listing of "What are you Eating/Drinking now?" When you conjure up the world of daytime TV, Harlequin romance, designer clothing and boobs in every post, you should expect to get some strong "politically incorrect" responses. After all don't you always say you hate anything PC? This is not the same as saying "you deserve what you got" but you should not act surprised when people do not understand your secret vulnerabilities. I think Shh was at least responding, in what she probably thought matched the tone of the thread, to what you said; it was your passion for fashion that pushed her over the edge; Kdoll seems to just loath YOU and your world view. I think Kdoll offers the stronger insult although Shh certainly gets the award for tasteless. I think she regrets writing the post and has calmed down and written an explanation. Perhaps after you calm down you can go back and calmly (even you have a calm side) restate your position and go on. That thread needs you as its leader. It's calling you back through the darkness, B--u--f--f--y, -B--u--f--f--y, -B--u--f--f--y... You are also wrong to think we can have a fun, girlie conversation about fashion. As long as women are primarily judged by youth and beauty this will be a hot button message board topic. If you want lighthearted fun, you will have to get it from non-interactive sources (or maybe only interactive sources with like-minded folks). You are a wonderful writer, and contribute a lot to keeping MOL colorful and lively. Sometimes I think you are quite "out there" and you hold ferociously strong to some odd tenets but you fit the message board genre like a glove. In fact, I think you were born to write on message boards. Many generations of BuffaloJoes roamed aimlessly through the plains until the Internet was created to give you life.. So, anyway, tell me, can large-breasted woman really wear those spaghetti strap tops? How is that possible? |

OK, I'm out of here now. Goodbye, it's been a wild ride. When two MOL posters express actual HATE for me publicly on this forum (that's you Cfa and Shh), things have gotten wayyy too toxic. I'm disgusted and appalled and very very sorry for these two posters who have allowed HATRED into their lives for the likes of ME. I'm harmless except for that I perhaps challenge the status quo. Yet here we have two poster enjoying a public hate-fest in a thread I started. Enjoy, folks. |

Buffalojoe, You are responding one way online and another way in your e-mail to me, where you took partial responsibility for the virtual fracas. If the blame can be shared equally, as you seem to indicate, perhaps we can all get a new start and agree to be civil. |

Buffy, no one said HATE. (At least I don't think so, though I'm not searching the archives.) CFA and I agreed though we might like you in person, online is another story. I've enjoyed many of your posts, but lately you seem to come off as a bit aggressive and hostile. Sorry you've been taking so many posts as so personal. We don't even know YOU, only whom you come off as in your posts. Good luck. Edited: OK, CFA said he HATED your online persona. I certainly don't think it was meant as a personal attack. Just merely a statement regarding (IMHO) your more recent posts. And it still seems strange to me that you would take what CFA said, and I agreed to, as such gospel on this board when YOU yourself have said or implied you don't really care what either of us has posted. Well, good luck anyhow. |

Best of luck to you Buffy. If it only takes a little trist to get your blood boiling, I feel sorry for you in life. Sure, I guess I shouldn't have said HATE, but it came out and it's over with. I probably shouldn't have said "DISLIKE." Would that have been better? Anyway, no point in beating a dead horse with a stick. Good luck to you and your husband while living here in good ole Maplewood. I hope you find all the peace and tranquility that you came here to enjoy. May your world be blessed with many children, pets, family, friends and causes to enjoy. Bon Voyage!!!! |
