Have you ever sent Rondo for 13 Musicians to John Schaefer at wnyc? |

Hey, glad you like the stuff! Did I number the tracks wrong - the funky jazzy tune is 'Mod Mood' and Watching the Machines is a synthy pattern-based thing. Anyway, no, it never even occurred to me to send the Rondo to John Schaefer. I did send a tape and score of the piece to Steve Reich via his management, although I never heard anything from them. |

I think Schaefer would be into it. Technical question: on the "Rondo for 13 Musicians": in the percussion-only version, is it still 13 musicians? ;-) |

I call that version "Rondo for 13 Musicians for 5 Musicians." |

Could 13 musicians do an interpretation of "Rondo for 13 Musicians for 5 Musicians"? |

Actually, that'd be a helluva lot easier for everyone involved. You'd need a mighty big room for all those pianos and marimbas, though. So, Seven Samurai for Wednesday? |

Hey Dave, any chance you might be able to post the Rondo somewhere around here? |

I'm looking at a few options. It's a long piece, so if 100 people downlaod it at 100 MB each, our hosting charge will go up $150 for the month. A MOL'er who works at a networking co. is looking into availablity of hosting streaming media for us gratis, but this may be weeks or months off. I'm looking at other options, too. I'll send cd to Jamie, who is better with the MP3ing of things. Maybe he can cut size down more. |

Oh! Sorry! Haven't checked here in a while. She's doing fantastic, thanks for asking. About 18 pounds. I wish she was friendlier... she doesn't like visitors, which has been kind of challenging for my girlfriend. I need to get her a buddy (um, Ella, not my girlfriend!), so if anybody has any kittens, I'm interested. I should post a current pic... |

New Car Announcement!! I am very pleased to announce that I finally bought a Toyota Prius! and it is really damn cool. I suspect that the folks at Caldwell Toyota take Sundays off for the express purpose of shedding their skins... but after a lot of crap from them, I finally ended up getting a good deal. I shall call her... Priuscilla, Queen of Mileage. I'll post a pic of this beauty when time and weather permit. |

Two weeks ago I was in the beautiful East Caribbean country of Dominica, and I'll tell you something: this is the 2nd-poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, most of the people have very little money or possessions, but they generally seemed every bit as happy and content as we are, if not more so. This is one of my better underwater shots from the trip. The fish is a Smooth Trunkfish. The shot was taken in Soufriere Bay at the southern tip of the island at a depth of about 30 or 40 feet. The camera is a Canon S40 digital with a built-in flash, in a marine housing.

Actually, my buddy and I went for a night dive at that spot and it was awesome. Our guide worked it so that we ended up at the "champagne" area at the end of the dive, and the water there is a little bit warmer which was quite welcome. Here's a shot from that dive... a close relative to that Trunkfish, the Honeycomb Cowfish.

Not sure what the deal is... sometimes I see 'em, sometimes I just get that "X" thingy that means "there's a picture here but I ain't givin' to ya". I tend to get more pictures showing up at home than at the office... I wonder if it has something to do with the amount of memory allocated to your browser...?? Dave, help!! |

The term jazz has been grossly misused for years, yeah. The other day someone said they listened to 101.9, and it took a lot for me to get out of my mouth "oh, ...the....jazz......station? Kraft American is more cheese than the stuff they serve in the cafeteria here |

I only got one tank in, and it was pretty lame. (Apparently, diving is much better in other parts of Spain.) But I did get a picture of this octopus, who was glad to see us move along.
