So, my vanity tops were delivered yesterday.
They are beautiful. They came with a buiilt-in undermount Kohler sink.

Here's my dilemma with the girls' bath: the vanity top is a quartz material— a whiteish base with fragments of glass and mirror mixed in, almost like a terrazzo. The glass ranges from greenish to mauve, and maybe I'm looking too closely, but I'm not sure what colors to do their vanity and their walls now! I don't want it to look too beachy. I was originally going to do their vanity a dark cream— a color we matched off our neighbors antique bed, but will it clash with the counter? If I do pure white, it might look too bright. I found some Ralph Lauren colors, a light sky blue, a light leafy green, that look nice with it (for walls and ceiling). Should I almost ignore these tones in it and treat it almost like carerra marble which is often put with cream? That was my original thought.

Suggestions anyone?

Oh yeah, one other thing we added to the master bath that I absolutely love is two rows of triangular shaped tile, black and white, above the subway tile. Then above that is the black pencil tile and a white bullnose edge tile. It adds so much to the room.
I'm thinking of doing that to the girls' bath, but not sure of the colors. It's just 4x4 tile cut on the diagonal. Hmmm...

Love the top! How about silver, grey or black for the vanity? Any of those colors would go with the girls' choices of room colors.

Hard to picture the cream but it might look pretty cool.

Thanks Wendy. Unfortunately, as you can see, we're doing the silver/gray black thing in our bathroom. Our vanity top is the same style, but black background, and our vanity itself will be black. (The undermount sink will still be white, so it won't be too dark. Plus the room itelf is very bright.)

I wanted to do something a little different for the girls. I think the top is neutral enough from a distance, but when you look closely there are a lot of colors and textures. In contrast to the sink it's definitely is a very cool off-white.

Love that triangular tile! Very cool!

What color is their sink?

The blues and greens sound nice but so different than what they originally wanted!

It's a white undermount sink.

Yeah, it's going to be tough to change their minds. There are so many things that will look good, it's so hard to settle. You have to think of resale, your own taste, etc.

We'll have to have another family meeting!

I'm confused; is the girls' bath the red/black palate or the green/blue palate?

The leafy green/blue sounds nice to me, but based on your other choices and personality, I'm not sure you'd like it for very long. What about a bolder color in the blue/green family that works with the vanity top but isn't so mild?

The girls WANT red ceiling and black walls, but their vanity top is above. My bath is the black/white gray combo. Everything else in my house (almost) is red and black. That might be why you're confused.

Actually, when we did our basement a few years ago, I decided to break away from the very deep bold colors I had previously used and did all the walls different colors: honeydew, sky blue and an apricoty yellow, with a gray carpet that has subtle flecks of different colors in it. Very citrusy and fun. I love the combo and it's definitely NOT pastel. If I did the blues and greens it would be more like that. Believe it or not, I haven't gotten tired of it in five years.

Notice how when I step out of the shower I'm going to give the neighborhood quite a show.

Gotta love that. I suppose we'll have to get blinds.

I'm lucky I'm so short no one can see anything but my head.

We have a black and white tile bathroom as well. Previous owners had white walls with a flower border (yuck!). We eliminated the border and painted deep tropical sea green/blue. Did walls and ceiling same color because the tile goes about 4' up the wall, the room has no crown molding, and I thought 2 colors would be too much. Looks great. We have a white pedistal sink though so no choice in a vanity color.

Older daughter's room is red & white (red carpet, 2 red walls, 2 white walls) with white furniture. I love it, she now wants pink since she was too young to have an opinion when I did it. Younger daughter's room is square and walls are 4 diff colors (red, green, yellow, blue). White trim. She is only 1 so has no opinion yet. I think it looks cool though!

You would think with all of the home decorating shows out there people could see past the paint/wallpaper but they just can't. Including my husband.

Shh- If you go to Blinds to Go or Smith+Noble, they have very cool shades that lower from the top as well as raise from the bottom. We have them in our bedroom & our friends have them in their master bath. It keeps the sun and the boobies in!

The boobs aren't a problem. You'd need high-powered binoculars to see 'em.

No! I like the natural light and the view too much!
I am the type of person who walks into a room and opens all the blinds or curtains. I think I will need to get 2" horizontal blinds so I can control the light (and the view inside!).

Shh-
I'm with you. We have no window coverings downstairs. I will get blinds to put on the French doors in the den in case we have guest room overflow & someone sleeps on the couch. My only compromise to privacy is the frosted glass window in the new bathroom, since you can look right in from the deck.

Those girls! Still can't decide. I gave them a bunch of choices and this is what I want.

blk yel

They are not so sure. I plugged in every color of the rainbow for their walls. My eldest said she prefers dark colors, but I think in the long run this will be best. If I don't do the yellow & black I'll just do the black and white like in my bathroom but do the walls yellow. They are each going to paint a ceramic tile which we will hang over their towel/robe hooks so they can use whatever colors they want there.

By the way, when I showed them the black walls they didn't like it! So glad we didn't let THAT happen!

Our grout is almost done. It's off-black, so the room looks very graphic. I like it a lot. The girls' bath will have gray grout, so it will look softer.

Supposedly I'll see a kitchen sink soon! Plus, the Pella window (to replace the vinyl I didn't like in the kitchen) is coming today.

I don't know why that graphic isn't working, but it's basically the same as my tile but with yellow and black triangles instead of black/white.

shh- the triangular tile looks awesome. I think I love yellow walls with the subway tile and black triangles...very NYC.
