Ok, it's about time I started a blog. And to begin with, I thought I'd share pics from my recent trip to Ireland: http://www.jamieross.com/ireland.php |

Emmie, Thanks - it was a nice time. Driving was a bit stressful though. :-) |

When we were in the UK as kids the whole three of us would shout at my mother not to look at the scenery and keep her eyes on the road. Particularly in Wales. The welsh hills are no place for drivers without nerves of steel. |

Cool. What is the history behind the stone walls in the "Cliffs" pics? And did the cows moo with an accent? |

The wall you see in this pic: http://www.jamieross.com/ireland1/pages/015_12A.htm was part of a stone fort in The Burren. They said there were around 1,500 stone forts in this area. I wish I had more pictures of this area - but one thing I found is that there wasn't many places where one could pull over and sightsee. And if there was a place to stop - it wasn't marked very well and I drove past a few. One very interesting stop was Newgrange at seen here: http://www.jamieross.com/ireland2/pages/013_10.htm A megalithic passage tomb built about 3200BC, you can learn more about it here: http://www.knowth.com/newgrange.htm Sightseeing was difficult while driving. Not only are you driving on the left side - the roads are very curvy and narrow. Especially on Connors Pass. http://www.jamieross.com/ireland4/pages/013_10.htm

Next time, do it on a bicycle! You'll get to stop almost anywhere. The scenery looks a bit like my bike trip through Wales in 1981. Sorry that I have no pictures. |
