Oh if the world would only listen to me! We would fix all these problems. No more "Feelings" crap driving our legislative process. It really boils down to people needing to grow up. Some sage advice from someone who left an indelible imprint on my life. It was this "Life is hard, but it is harder if you're stupid" That was immediately accompanied by a 3 minute tirade on my failure to follow simple instructions (I had not given the "Column Right" command on the correct foot) Yes that man was my OCS Platoon Sergeant, Gunnery Sergeant Tukes USMC. He was the wisest man I have ever known. Why can we not bomb the mosques that the Taliban hide in seeking refuge? Why can we not tell a mother with 6 kids by 6 different fathers on welfare to work for her welfare check? Why can't people understand that 95% of the world's issues boil down to what is right and what is wrong. 95% of our problems are not "Gray areas" up for interpretation. Why can't people say "I am Conservative, I don't believe in abortions, It's not my right to tell you you can't have an abortion, Leave the Boy Scouts the heck alone, Promote responsibility, accountability, honor, integrity, courage, and committment"? Why are people so mealy mouthed about these issues in our life? There should not be any free prescription drugs just because you attained the venerable age of 65. It isn't right. Why can't welfare be administered at the township level? Why does any federal employee or politician have the desire and indeed the chutzpah to tell my town how to educate my children? Why should my productivity be taxed instead of my consumption? Why do people call you names when the cold hard truth is shone to them? I'll finish with some words o' wisdom: "Who is it that darkeneth counsel by words without wisdom?" - Job 37:2 "Do not confuse your wits with wisdom." - Tiresius to Dionysus, in Euripedes' THE BACCHAE "If your reach does not exceed your grasp, then what is a heaven for?" - Robert Browning "Reality is always neutral and unbiased. The moment we put a negative label on an event, we create our own misery." - Malcolm Campbell "Wisdom sounds follish to fools." - Dionysus to Cadmus, in Euripedes' THE BACCHAE |
