I love to hear myself speak - so why wouldn't I want to read myself. Probably the closest to being published, or immortalized. Not to minimize my 9 month old son who is my true legacy. I love MOL. In fact we are moving in about 8 weeks - and I still plan on checking in on this site. Even though I mostly lurk - and so afraid of criticism, I feel the need to private message as opposed to "post." This is me stepping out of my comfort zone, in high heels and pointy toes! Even as I feel I am on the peripheral of this online community - I must commend everyone - it is as amazing community in the virtual as it is in reality. Kudos to all involved! Blog? I am not sure if this fits the bill. Even if this just allows me a place to write, because I love to write and I don't know what to write about.

As I sit here and write this a banner ad is flashing "math for laughs" That is about as ironic as hitting your funny bone. Math has never been a laughing matter for me. The downward spiral began in third grade. We had to learn fractions and long division - and that crazy metric was everywhere. Dating myself huh? So, in third grade I started in the top math group and by the end of the year - I was stuck in the middle. There is a whole other blog entry in that last statement. Anyway, I was so upset having to move groups... This is over 30 years ago - time to get over it. Then in highschool I flunked geometry. Had to take it the next year with the burnout class. Kinda like the sweathogs. The cool thing about being with them, it afforded me protection in the halls or when you had to walk by them in this scary area behind Burger King - called the Pit. Regardless, my parents did not see the silver lining in this equation. College did not provide laughs for math either. I don't what the freshman requirement was called. But, since I didn't feel required to attend the class, and when I did, my state was somewhat elevated. I failed only to return to summer school. I took an extra goverment class that summer - but again no one was laughing. Especially my parents who had to pay for me to take this class twice and to live in Connecticut for half the summer. So, math it seems, follows you through life. I continue to confront it like a bad pasta salad. I leave school and I have to get a job, and use that money to pay bills.. Oh boy. Since I never kept the checkbook or opened the bills - I really didn't have to do math. But it was there, waiting for me. Then I married my first husband. Here the odds were never in my favor - but since I never understood, ratios and percentages - I was the last to figure this out. He took over the finances, but the funny thing is after he left, I had less money coming in, and more money to spend. That math I understood. Now, my current husband (and last- by everyone's calculations) actually does laugh at my math phobia. We just hope it is not passed on to my son. If it does, let's hope that same "Math for Laughs" banner is flashing - so he can get help! |

I had the opportunity today to go into one of those "teenager stores" to buy my nieces presents. I never felt so old or so fat - or even poor. Ironically, I was feeling good anticpating that on Christmas, I will still come out as the cool aunt! Oy vey! |

Merry Christmas jab66. Welcome to the posting world of MOL! We have a number of former Maplewood and South Orange folks who post on MOL, some post more frequently than they did when they lived here. This is a great place to keep up with old friends and new events. So please don't become a stranger once you leave our physical borders. |

Merry Christmas -it's not even my holiday and I am exhausted. We first visited my mother in law and sister in law with the baby. He was bombarded with gifts. And the chihuahua scared the crap out of him. It's a fat little dog - she scares me... The dog and my mother in law.. oops - hope my husband doesn't read this... Then off to my brother's where we had a real italian dinner. My son was surrounded by more sutff. But the best part was my 11 year old niece's christmas gift. Karaoke video game. This was amazing... I really was good at it... I loved to sing - and I scored points (don't know how this thing keeps score...). Remember from my first post - I love the sound of my own voice. If you see me around town - I am probably singing... In my car, to myself... Sadly, no one else enjoys it as much as me.. i am not even sure i like it so much!

Today at the gym, one of the trainers was putting together a new year's bulleting board and she asked me for examples of new years resolutions. She had the usuals, and I felt fortunate that even though, I could lose weight and get more organized, etc etc, I don't feel compelled to do this all at once. These are things that I procrastinate doing all year long. Perhaps there is something to getting older! |
