I am so excited about my 6 year old's first day at the Y Camp. He had so much fun. He is a sensitive boy and I was a bit worried about him. At the bus stop for pick up, he ran off the bus with a HUGE SMILE and was full of good news all the way home! Even though it's rainy, it's a beautiful day!

My daughters have been going to the Y camp for a number of years now, and both look fwd to having fun. Your son will have a great time. The counsellors do a great job.

Wish I had the same story. My 4 year old was a bit disappointed, although I'm sure a lot of it had to do with the rain. She is home today because "my tummy hurts" and she refused to go in to the Y. Here's hoping things get better by the end of the week!

Depends on the age. The Y-Knots (4-5 year olds I think) are 6-1, older is 8-1 I believe.

Wendy - I'm so sorry she did not have a good time. Mine did well after some initial trepidation, but she had her big brother there (plus their CIT is one of her ocasional babysitters who lives across the street).

This is my 6yo's second year and he loves it. My wife said he ran over to his group, with a bunch of old friends, and never looked back.

She actually liked the swimming, and loved being with little ashear in her "group". Hopefully things will look better by next week (and it will stop raining!).

FYI...we finally got a backpack at the kiosk in Livingston Mall that shh suggested. Pink, princesses, perfect size to fit everything, AND it has a water bottle. Of course she looks like she is going to tip over when she puts it on.

I suggested LLBean, but that's ok! AT least she likes her accessories, even if camp will take some getting used to.

My three are all so happy with their camp. The older 2 have a full schedule of enrichment classes that they LOVE and the little one is at Camp Prospect and had a ball. (And I'm enjoying the alone time!)

This doesn't seem like a blog. More like a Virtual Cafe topic.

Wendyn, my kids were a little dissapointed as well the first day. I am thinking it is just first day jitters, and they will get to like it better as time goes on, they make new friends etc. The one part they loved was the swimming at the Maplewood Country Club and taking the bus!

Sully, do you have a problem with the Y camp?

And Dave, I agree, this has turned into a Virtual Cafe thread!

From what my daughter said they were pretty strict at the pool, which is great. At least after the first day I don't have any concerns from that standpoint.

Red, I'm thinking the same thing. Plus my daughter was tired from a long weekend and with the rain, well, it just wasn't an ideal first day. They ended up in her preschool classroom much of the afternoon so I guess it just wasn't different enough from a normal school day! Hopefully she will feel better tomorrow and have a better day.

No. I'm just asking questions that any parent should have concerns about. We don't have experience with the Y camp, so inquiring minds want to know

Sorry Dave..I'm new to the "blog" thing and I was just so excited about my son having such a great first day...I couldn't contain myself
Maybe I should have went to another board but...oh well!

I would like to add that it is such a great thing to see the consistency of Coach Dave and Mr. Tommy and the others...dedicating themselves to the development of our youngsters. What a great legacy they are creating.

It can be a blog. All I'd do is change the title to Deidra and it can stay here.

Coach Dave has the patience of a saint. My son has been in many Y-sponsored activities and I'm always amazed how he keeps control...when I would run screaming from the gym

I have no concerns about the Y sully. Especially at the pool. The years of experience I have had at the Summit Y and the Maplewood Y leave me completely confident that my children are safe.
