Actually, I can e-mail myself now. That may be the best thing for me to spend my time doing, too... Just now, I saw that my MOL "flag" (who's posting) now includes punctuation. Harkening back to the start of the thread... thankey |

You've activated your profile! *I* even don't know how to do that! (sitting in stunned silence) I guess people can log into their profiles and switch it on, but should be forewarned that it will expose their real names. (Now we know who Brianoleary is.) |

Here it is, the end of June, and as a person who periodically works at home, I am grateful for the change in the weather. For Father's Day, I was surprised with tickets to the final round of the U.S. Open at Bethpage, a spectacle all around and some good golf as well. Along with graduations at SOMS and CHS, that was the highlight. I am also ruminating on the meaning of 500 posts. Bobk would counsel that I need..... counseling, and he should know. Now that we are all "citizens" (does this confirm the socialist accusations bandied about for MOL, or does it merely parody them?), the number of posts is no longer what it briefly became: competitive. This made me reflect: Have I used my posts wisely? For the betterment of humankind? Without fear or favor? To make Wendy laugh? Okay, enough reflection. Hope you all are starting an enjoyable summer. |

Definitely a good thing about the weather. I much prefer the attic fan to the a/c. As for post counts.... <-------- take a look at this madness |

Dave, if I start writing about the ladybug crawling over the CD writer, you'll know that I am .. uh oh. Hank... lol and thanks. Borrowing the phrase, then: "How did I get here?" And Wendy, thanks greatly, especially for the laughs. I also appreciate your keeping me posted about when you need a haircut. We appear to be on the same cycle, although I seem to have a lot less at stake .... |

Now that the heat has broken (again), I can return to the safe haven of the teeny home office and type ... Two of the last four weeks have been water-side vacations, helping with the heat, but those vacation weeks pass too quickly. It may be a sign of advancing age, but I actually said out loud yesterday that another summer like this and I'll install air conditioning. Even with the ceiling fans on high, the recent weather made sleeping difficult. If you see me asking George B* for advice on installing central air, you'll know it is time for an intervention. *That's Berkeley, not Bush. |

Brian, I need to tap your expertise on how to be self-employed AND take a vacation. In place of a get-away vacation this summer I'm going to buy a new Mac at least. Have you been to the Apple Store in Short Hills yet? Do they do "configurations while you wait"? |

I've been to the Apple Store (twice!) and bought software, a router and that great David Pogue book. I haven't yet been bold enough to buy something they configure (although the Titanium series Powerbooks are hugely tempting), so I don't know if they do it while you wait. They certainly have enough staff roaming around to make it so. The vacation thing is easier (and harder) when you have family to pull you places. We've had our share of summers without taking time off, and it took a toll. Since then, we've resolved to do something each summer, even if it's a few three- or four-day weekend, to make the most of the time and temperature that has been given us. Golf is another story |

Speaking of golf, I've not done much since attending the last round of the U.S. Open at Bethpage. I was humbled enough by what I saw that I put away the clubs for a month, then played just once each week while on vacation in Connecticut and the Cape. So it was with some trepidation that I returned to my "home" course (East Orange, strangely located in Short Hills) the other day. The weather and an eerie calmness lifted me to a personal best (39-44-83), the first time I've been below 40 for a nine. Bronze me now and never let me play again |

So, here it is September, school is back in (at least for the youngest one; wait until tomorrow for the full boat) and even the weather is trending toward manageable. After enduring a summer of brown, we woke up on Monday to find that the recent rains had left our lawn looking almost respectable. I'm knee-deep in organizing files and memorabilia (a pet project that dates back to the ... well, I'd rather not say) and I've come across some great stuff: old letters from friends, notes from my family about getting into the high school I attended, the Boston Globe coverage of man's first landing on the moon, and more. I guess I have been a collector from way back. |

I started this thread with a lament for personal punctuation, so my hat goes off to Dave for letting me have it back. I wrote him a note to say that I actually had a tinge of regret putting the compound "brianoleary" on the back burner. I guess life is what you get used to. |

Who else in town loves when the weather cools off enough to let the impatiens just explode? |

Are they supposed to explode? We have them near the house, so I'm worried. I just removed the air conditioner from my office window, so I'm sure we're in for some 90 degree weather soon. |

Beautiful area to go to college. Close enough to come home for holidays, etc or to go spend a weekend there and visit him. Now, how are you supposed to save money for the youngest to go to school if you are spending all of it to send the oldest? |
